Hi Pierre ,
The PCI Express 2.0 or 2.1 is backwards compatible with the PCI x16 1.0 and 1.1 slot motherboards. However, PCI-e 2.0 ( 2.1 ) cards on 1.1 and 1.0 motherboards will not be able to run at their maximum velocity . I think you are not using the correct driver but motherboard MS-7148 doesn't seem to exist . Go to ASUSes site to download the latest available driver compatible with your OS : http://support.asus.com/download/options.aspx?SLanguage=en
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

If this is your board/system:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00378480&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us
MS-7184, and you have this card:

You are trying to run a PCIe 2.0 through a PCIE x 16 slot. Your board is not designed to work with this card.
