I have an Dyson animal DC14 that just stopped working. It was plugged into an outlet and running and I walked away for a minute and it shut off. Could it have blown a fuse or something?

When was the last time you cleaned the filter there are two, one in the top and one in bottom. it sounds like you just tripped the temp safety switch. clean the filters and let dry put back together and it should work

My dyson quits running after vaccuming a short time. I am wondering if the motor is over heating is why it stops running.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC14 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage - I'd also recommend washing the filter. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours.

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1942&product=DC14-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Jack

My daughter plugged my 110 volts dyson dc14 into a 220 volts outlet. It no longer works - can it be repaired?

After checking with Dyson, it appears it can be fixed but depending on the age, it might be more cost effective to just buy a new one. There are not a lot to the dyson vaccums to repair. Plugging the vac into double the voltage would have fried the motor and that will need to be replaced. There is not reset or surge protector. With shipping and replacement of the motor, we would recommend a new vac. Good luck and sorry!

check out this web site for some possible other fixes before buying a new one:

Dyson DC14 animal shut down, now won't turn on

This coul;d be a couple thing, it could be that the machine is full and shut off due to a heat sensor. You should see if it has a reset button on it for the power head. I don't think it does so I would empty it out and clean the filter and try it again. Also did you try it in another plug in as you may have blown the breaker.also if the dirt container is not in just right it will not turn on as threre is a safety switch so it can not be run without the dirt container. Try these things and if you have npo luck write back and we will try again.

Where is the reset button on a dc14?

There isn't one. If the motor is not running you might have a bad on off switch or this model does have a heat sensor that shuts down the motor that may be faulty. You will need to send it back to dyson.

My Dyson Animal 14 beater brush will not turn.

It MAY be a clutch issue. I had a similar problem with my DC07 Animal recently a posted a solution elsewhere on this site, but here's the summary. To reset the clutch on my model, recline the vacuum, turn it on it's side and slowly change the carpet/bare floor knob from one setting to the other about 6 times. This apparently reset the clutch and now it works fine. You may also wish to call DYSON. They're very helpful and walk you through troubleshooting before recommending servicing. Their number is 1-866-693-9766. They'll need your model and serial number (located on bottom of uinit).
