Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Hi Peter
Old ing goes hard and blocks tiny pores
Remove the new ink cartridges and clean old ink away with methylated spirits.
Leave rag in around heads for awhile to soften up ink.

I've just replaced the black ink cartridge for my Epson Stylus TX100, ink level is ok as the indicator shows. But i get blank prints for black, other colors are fine. What's wrong with the black ink...

There is nothing wrong with the black ink. Just run the head cleaning for better printing.

1. Go to printer and faxes
2. Right click your printer ( Epson Stylus Multifunction Printer/ Copier/ Scanner InkJet)
3. Click printing preferences
4. Click Maintenance Tab
5. Click Head Cleaning
6. Run head cleaning for 5 times then try printing.

Black ink not printing

You could clean the black ink cartridge. For this you need to remove the black ink cartridge which is present in the printer. In order to clean the laser or scanner block you could use a cotton swab as it would fully clean the dirt. You need to clean the grime and the dried ink present in the printer. This would remove all the hindrances which prevent the ink from flowing. Cleaning the printer heads would also help to solve the problem.get more help for printer not printing black .

I put a new black inf cartridge in my 5500

A lot times running clean print heads is not enough to resolve this issue. You need to do a little bit more.

Pleae give this procedure a try.

Ink may be new, but their nuzzles may be blocked; depending on manner of storage. To be sure apply a folded tissue paper to the ink nuzzle and press firmly. If the tissue comes off well blotted with ink it means you still have a good amount of ink in it and the nuzzle is not blocked. If not blotted or scantily blotted, it means ink is really low or nuzzle is blocked. To be very sure of this, place nuzzle in a plate/saucer with a bit water so that the nuzzle is soaked. Leave for about 10 minutes. Then apply the tissue again. If still not well blotted it means ink is really low or empty. If new you should return it for a replacement. In the case of blocked nuzzles, the procedure may be repeated over to get results.

The black ink will not print on my Epson Stylus SX600FW printer. Th eprinter was left for a few weeks without black ink. Has the needle heads dried up and become clogged? How can I fix this problem?

I have an Epson sx600fw which has had a problem printing with black ink. I spent alot of money trying genuine and cheap inks as official advice is to replace with a genuine epson cartridge and clean up to 6 times before seeking further help. Tried this to no avail. By accident I found that if you set the paper type to glossy or photo then miraculously the black will work but in this setting it is slow. Epson replace the printer under warranty but I have just received a new one and it has exactly the same problem. I am slightly reluctant to buy another set of genuine inks to waste through 6 cleaning cycles as they are over £35 so am not sure what to do but I guess I will approach Epson again.

Color printing

if you have used generic ink the ph might be destroyed.

Nevertheless give it a try (use nearly FULL carts):

press menu then start bk copy then 4 times arrow up. machine will be in maintenance mode. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk copy. machine will refresh tubes and ph with new ink and do some cleaning cycles. when finished press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk copy. machine will do a power cleaning. leave maintenance by pressing 9 then 9. Do run a quality test print by pressing ink etc. If you cant see any color blocks the ph has to be replaced by a new one.

Printing blank pages

Did you run the cart initialization?
Try this: (use new carts because it consumes some ink)
press menue then start mono (blue) then fourtimes arrow up button (tel-index). machine will be in maintenance mode and lights will flash. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start mono. machine will refill tubes and ph with freh ink and do some cleaning.
Leave maintenace by pressing 9 then 9. Do run a quality test print by pressing ink etc. Iy you cant see the letters and colored blocks well the ph has to be replaced.
I guess your machine is a 2.5 years old. Unfurtunately brother ph didnt last longer than that time when useing generic ink.

Black ink

You could try flushing it with gen brother inks but more than likely you machine head is blocked and need replacement, very common and I'm sorry to say costly.

There is no easy fix for these heads on this machine, the only slight chance you have is to do a flush of the lines and head with good ink. To get to Maintenence mode you need to enter menu * 2 8 6 4 via keypad real quick, when you have done it correctly with speed, Maintence mode will display. enter in 76 arrow across to black then press 3 to select power purge then press the black start key.
This will use 1/3 of a ink and more times than not you will need to change head, but rather than that buy a new printer.

Brother inks contain additives that clean the lines and help stop blocking.

Printer head cleaning

Sometimes a cart doesnt work well because of mal manufacturing. Put in another brandnew black cart and do the cleaning cycle again. Its an advantage to use genuine brother carts! If you dont have any success try this: press menu then start/mono (b/w) then four times arrow up. maintenance should be displayed and the printer beeps. press arrow up til 7 is displayed. press enter. press arrow up til 6 in display. press enter. Display: Cleaning_All. press arrow up til 3 then enter: power_p all. Press start mono. machine starts power cleaning. After maintenance is displayed press arrow up til 0 (zero) then enter then 9 then enter. machine prints print quality sheet. In case there are only a few blocks in black repeat the above procedure. If you doesnt see neither any blocks in bk nor text after the second try be sure that your printhead is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore. This happens due to thirdparty ink which has pigmented ink instead of dye ink. Use only dye ink for brother printers!!!
