Most phones allow you to switch from tone to pulse dialing. I'd like to tell you how to do that on your phone but since you didn't specify the model I'm afraid I can't do that.

While on an active line, or after selecting the line, press # and the phone will switch from pulse to tone dialing. After you hang up the phone, your phone will return to pulse dialing. You may repeat these steps as needed.
try changing phone to tone dialing . one phone line has been setup for Decadic dialing and the other line may be setup for tone dialing.
If tone dialing is working on one line but not the other then get phone company to change the dialing type on the phone line.
Dual tone multi frequency is the technical name for tone dialing and is more efficient than decadic dialing or pulse dialing.
To change the dialing from pulse to dtmf dialing on a prostar 816 you first need to be at a display set (doesn't matter what the extension number is). with the handset down, enter #20 the screen should say MMC DISABLED 1) enter in 1 2 3 4 1 # (that enables programming) 2) enter in #42 the screen should momentarily say trunk dial typethen display the current programmed data (00000000) 3) enter in 0 for pulse dialing and 1 for dtmf dialing for each of the lines. i.e. touch tone dialing for lines 1-4 would be 11110000. all 8 digits must be entered for the program to accept the data press # when finished.

You can use pulse and/or tone on a tone line. But you cannot use tone on a pulse line.
A pulse line is cheaper ... I have a pulse line from the mid 70's and I refuse to upgrade it (costs more) to tone - whats the point - I never get any calls and im not in that big a hurry to dial for the extra couple bucks they want.
The Vetech phone will only support tone dialing. It does have a menu option that turns tone on or off but it still will not allow pulse dialing. I had to change the phone service from pulse dialing to tone dialing to get the phones to work. As it turned out, the phone company no longer charges extra for the tone service.
1) When the phone is in standby mode, press and hold the caller id/menu key. 2) Press the vol/ / key three times to select Dial. 3) Press the select key to toggle between Tone and Pulse. 4) Press the end key or return the handset to the base unit to complete the setting. This phone also has a feature that allows you to use Pulse dialing to make calls, but allows you to switch to tone dialing for automated systems (like “Please Press 1 for English) here are the steps for that: Initially make your call with the pulse dialing mode. Once your call connects, press the */tone key. Enter the desired number. These digits will be sent as tone dialing. Once the call ends, the tone mode is canceled and pulse dialing mode resumes.

Sir the you are dialing on needs to have the other dial mode in operation. You have the ability to change dial mode on your phone. Instructions to change dial mode are usually at the beginning of the manual under install /set up the phone. If you are currently using pulse, please change the mode to tone.
