Question edited for clarity. Question moved from Larry's Computer category and moved to Pool Pumps.
The company no longer make pumps as shown in Larry's link. They now sell inflatables for pools, and certainly didn't MAKE the pump. They did a deal and got a company to put their name on one. Google seems to think this is your pump. If not, it is time for a new one. Buy a brand leader like Grundfoss.
There is a possibility that this model is not supported any longer. What you are needing is an IMPELLOR. The company that makes sure dry has a lot of information here: http://www.pumpproducts.com/myers-m-39.html
If it hums and the impellor shaft is not turning, it's jammed and will trip the breaker after it over heats.
If the impellor shaft is turning, may have a broken impellor. After closing the inlet and oulet valves, I would take the pump cover off and check... Good luck...
The impellor will be on the pump body itself, right before where the motor is mounted and attached. Generally you have to remove the pump from the motor to access the impellor. If you find the shaft of the motor then you are in the right vicinity.
First, Yes you need to turn off the pump when switching from filter to backwash. And Yes again get a heavy guage cord so you don't burn out the windings in the motor. The thermal will usually stop the motor from catching fire after the damage is done.
Now your problem; Water can be put under pressure but you can't compress it. Air on the other hand you can compress. If you had any air in the tank and didn't get it out while switching from filter to backwash. When you shut the pump off that air will expand at a rapid rate and rush back through the sustem. This will cause the impellor to spin off the shaft inside the pump and bind up. If you take the pump apart and look this could be your problem.More often than not your threads on the impellor will be runed so yopu probally need a new one and a new seal but cheaper than a new motor. If you take it to a pool store they can do this for you for a small charge or just the price of parts. While you have it there have them check to see if you can get a left hand thread impellor screw to lock the impellor on so this won't happen again. Most motor shafts are already drilled and tapped for this. The left hand thread can't spin off and will keep the impellor in place. Also be careful not to **** air when draining water from pool.Good luck.
Separate pump and motor. Remove diffuser. Remove back cover from motor. Motor shaft has either a slot for a screwdriver or a flat area for a wrench. Hold shaft and unscrew impeller.
We too have an Intex pool and opted to not waste money on their pumps which arent adequate enough to properly filter the pool. We bought a nice sand filter system off a great seller on amazon for $305 delivered. (DO NOT BUY "GAME" system for intex pools, my sister bought one and has had nothing but problems and just bought 5 weeks ago).
We are very happy with the results from our Waterway sand filter system. We did not have to buy any adapters to fit it to our pool. And it keeps the water perfect! We have an 18' x 52 metal frame pool. If you intend on using your pool for years, I recommend buying a sand filter system. It is more expensive than replacing the intex pump, but you will be much happier with the sand filter system.
It sounds like the impellor is locked. Take this part off and then see if the pump is turning but before you do, some of them have a big screw driver slot in the shaft. If it does, turn it to see if you can free the impellor. I have done this many times and they will continue to work for years after. They just get stuck from rust, etc. and also being frozen a little. Hope this helps.
