Acer security I have a laptop travelmate 2420 and use microsoft 2003. I e-mailed document files from microsoft word 2007 and I am unable to open them. The files appeared on my desk top with a red circle with a line through it overlaying the file. A pop up window with acer security asked for me to input passwords which i have done so and it is now coming up with error code 1302-2 can you advise?

You have to probably remove all the screws under the computer. remove the hdd memory and etc. The next part will be to check near the keyboard if there is something to pull out, underneath that there will be more screws to pull out and you will the cmos battery.

This error is cause because of f the security update for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 on December 8, 2009.
You may experience mail merge issues write files are parsed but no message is shown.
To resolve this issue, an affected user can unregister the mswrd632 converter by editing the registry as follows:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text Converters\Import\MSWord6.wpc
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes.
Exit Registry Editor.

NOTE: For x64 systems above path is slightly changed:

Go to Tools > Options > General (Tab) in Word 2003
And check "Confirm Conversion at Open"
When you next try to open the document it will prompt you with a list to convert from. Choose Word 2007 and your document will open.
Have in mind that you will have to unregister mswrd632 first, which is noted above, before you make this changes.
NOTE: If none of this works, please check that your file is not corrupted, or that you or someone else didn't add X at the end of .doc extension or vise versa. This WILL NOT work! You have to convert the document using Office 2007 or 2010.

If you are unable to open any attached file in your incoming mail and are using Microsoft Office 2007, run registry editor (regedit.exe) and scroll to the following location:

It appears that your Acer has 3 ports in the front center bottomportion of the laptop. It's possible that the "normal.dot" template is protected. This will result in any document created using that template also being protected. Try going into File -> New and creating something specific, for example a menu, that uses a different template. If suddenly you can use the keyboard, then you've found the problem.

Under those circumstances, use the Windows Search tool to find the file "normal.dot" and delete it. When you run Word again it will create a new, unprotected document template called "normal.dot" and Word should function correctly from then on.

You don't need the original setup cd as long as you have the windows cd you can boot up the pc using that cd and just repair the windows or install it over cause its only a file messed up. Get back to me

OTHER computers can only open Office documents if they also have the same version of office or a HIGHER (newer) version (backward compatibilitiy)
Office 2007 doc can open ONLY with Office 2007.
Both computers must have Office 2007.

But if you have Office 2007 you can open any OLDER Office doc (Office 2003, Office XP, etc.)
If much older, (Office 95 or earlyier) there is a conversion program to open the older version with a newer version.
