I have done a hard reset on my axim last night, because the tech. guy was convinced that it would solve the d-pad problem that I had with the unit... Well to make a long story short, after the hard reset I lost all data, and I put the axim in the cradle and it sync-ed but I had to create a new name for it, and it never brough the software that I had originally installed on the unit back... is that common and everytime we'll do a hard reset on it, will we have to re-install all the software and assing a new name to the unit, if so than it is ridiculous!!!
-Also, has anyone come across a way to sync the axim with outlook express, I like it far better than outlook!???
-And are your axims staying on even though in the power settings you have assigned them to shut down while powered externally after so many minutes??? Mine is set to shut off after 3 and its been now 40 and its still on!!!
You can also use Data Backup to restore your axim to the settings that preceded the hard reset. I recommend backing up daily to a storage card. To do this, pda must be in charger:
Press Start
choose data back up
choose back up all data
(you can also just back up pim data)
select storage card
name the back up file when prompted
hit okay
That will back everything up for you. To restore, press start, choose restore, and specify which backup file you want to restore. (You can press Start and Explore if you aren't sure-- the files will be listed.)
I have done a lot of hard resets (of non-Axim products) lately, and have found you can get your devices name as well as software back rather quickly. After the hard reset, you want to delete the partnership in activesync. Then if you rename (or leave) the devices name, it will "let you" continue to use that name. Also, Add/Remove programs in ActiveSync should still have all the programs you installed from the desktop listed in it. For the most part, just check which you want to install, click OK, and they will all be installed at once. You should also be able to resync all your contact data from Outlook again without problem.
Through ActiveSync on your PC you can do a backup of your Axim to your PC. If you do a complete backup, then you should be able to use ActiveSync to restore your system back to the way it was. This is not an automatic, or default setting for ActiveSync, but it is feature that is available.

My Axim X30 would not turn on using battery power but would turn on when connected through charger adapter.
Solution:
1. Connect AC adapter directly to the charger adapter and then to the Axim X30 and to the electrical outlet.
2. Charge battery until power button is solid green.
3. Press the power button to power on.
4. Remove cable from cable connector leaving the cable connector connected to the Axim X30. The Axim X30 will remain powered on.
5. Turn the Axim X30 off.
6. Turned the Axim X30 on using battery power.
7. Remove cable connector from Axim X30.

Hi
Try This
Squeezing the Axim gently in normal holding position
Placing the Axim in the sync cradle (I have no clue why this works)
Doing a soft reset
Shutting it off and leaving it alone. Then Re-Starting it.
The Axim, despite its size and weight, is not as rigid as it should be. If the case flexes far (or often?) enough, you'll get the "not responding to taps" issue.
If you have the problem now, call Support, and get an exchange. Don't worry about getting a refurb. I use lots of refurb equipment, and they are no more or less likely to fail than new equipment. Note that if you continue to flex the refurb's case like your original (I carried mine around in my pants pocket), it will eventually develop the same problem.
fully agree.
My 3 largest gripes with the Axim are as follows:
1. Lame feeling directional pad (should be 5-way..i.e. the Palm Tungsten)
2. Even cheaper-feeling rocker/jog-dial thingy.
3. Disappointing video playback, specifically in Pocket TV.
A Soft reset will only minimize and temporarily suspend any running programs on your Axim.
