My dryer smells like an old wet wash cloth. It has a stale water smell to it and is making my clothes smell like it. I can smell it when i open the door and stand right in front of the dryer opening. the lint filter is located right in the front middle, the lint also goes up and around the door and inside a hole in the bottom of the door at times. How can i get rid of this horrible smell? thank u for your help!

Experienced this myself..also it was taking much longer to dry. I purchased a long brush (looks like a long bottle brush ) thats bendable if needed. remove lint filter and using this brush you can remove trapped lint Have a small garbage can nearby if you've never cleaned it. I couldnt believe the amount of lint. Purchased brush at dollar store for under $5 and its great for cleaning refrigerator coils. Hope this helps

There is a very simple way to get rid of unwanted smells. I would suggest use a cup of white vinegar every wash to clean from stale muck and smells inside the machine.

SOURCE: burning smell coming from the dryer!

You have a serious clog somewhere in your dryer exhaust ventilation. I would recommend you STOP using the dryer immediately and clean both the interior and all the vent ducting from where it exits the dryer to where it exits the home. the burning is coming from lint build up in and around the heating element and its beginning to smolder. This is a potential fire hazard and may end up causing the heating circuits to fail. The condensation comes from the the inability of the hot air (which is mixed with humidity from your clothing) condensating inside the vent duct. The lint starts to collect and get wet to the point of saturation. Then it begins to cause water to form and leak out of the ducting and on to your floor. You do not want this condensation inside the dryer where the heating circuits are. The following link will provide with some guidance for future reference:

Pay particular attention the paragraph where it discusses proper dryer ventilation. I hope this helps you. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

SOURCE: Bad smell inside dryer

that's because it's brand new. See if it goes away in a month. After a load has dried leave the door open for a bit. What does it smell like?

Smell of stale water from Avanti compact washer

It may not be draining very well.

I have a front load washer and run a cycle of a few cups of bleach through mine every couple months.

I also add vinegar to most washes but that's due to my teenage son's athletic wear.

Both those things do the trick.

You shoudl probably check the mechanics as well but the above is a stop gap.

How do we clean with this machine .

Is this a front-load washer or top load?

Is the machine operating properly, or are your clothes getting a musty smell?

The musty smell has a few solutions, One may work but probably a combination of all will work best.

Immediately move wet clothes to the dryer, do not let them sit in the washer for a long time.
If your clothes smell, put mouthwash with your clothes directly in the tub during the wash cycle (this will not stain your clothes)
leave the door open when not in use (lets it dry out)
If the washer smells, use bleach and hot water in an empty cycle once in a while (kills just about every kind of bacteria or mold which may be causing the smell)
Use washing machine cleaner once in a while(can be found at your local grocery store isle next to detergent)
Dry your clothes completely, damp clothes can start to smell again.

If you are looking for a new washer, try to find a newer model that features a stainless steel tub with silver impregnation. The silver is a natural disinfectant.

My washing machine is making my clothes smell like stale old water, what can i do to fix that or is it time just to invest in a new washer?

Do a hot wash with one cup of dishwasher powder in the machine but NO CLOTHES, also if clothes are washed and left too long in the machine this can happen, this is why more machines now have a delay start so the wash can finish closer to the time you want to take them out.

Smell after drying

Try drying your clothes without the dryer sheet and see if the smell is still there. If it is not, then the problem is the dryer sheet.
If it is, then you need to describe the smell better. Different people handle smells differently. What smells musty to you may smell fragrant to others.
You need to determine if the smell you don't like is really a musty smell, or is it a fragrance you don't like. Have some friends (not family members) smell the clothes and verify if what you are smelling is musty or fragrant.

It could also be that even though the clothes smell OK out of the washer, that the detergent you are using is the cause.

My dryer smells like sulfur . The clothes smell

Run a couple of hot washes with no clothes in the machine

Before you do dissolve some Soda Crystals in 2 liters of hot water and put them into the machine by hand.

Your machine smells because new powders wash at lower settings and do not contain bleaches and soda to kill off the grease which is washed off the clothes

Mildew/Stagnant water smell in washer

you know, this does happen.

run it on a full cycle, warm, with either of these in solution.

baking soda, at 1/10 concentration

non chlorine bleach, at 1/6 concentration

you most likely need to do this more than once, until your nose is happy.

Also, consider doing this at least once every 200 wash cycles.

essential oils have same effect, and do a nice anti microbial as well.

we did this in commercial laundries all the time, as part of standard health code compliance issues.
