See here the Stanley knife disassembly. If you have a 99E there may be an additional plastic part that is not shown in the diagram. The plastic tab is located at the back of the blade.
the blade section pivots to swivel
when doing that it allows you access to the blade storage area that holds up to 7 blades, if the extra blades arent in place perfectly the handle won't close properly, if your problem is with the blades themselves, make sure that the slot in the blade is aligned with the holder perfectly
at the handel end it will pull apartthen slide the whats left of the old blade and put new won in its place just do it slowly so you dont forget how it goes
The model in your picture is a fixed blade utility knife (model 10-816). Your question asks for instructions for model 10-778, which is a retractable knife. I'll guide you through the 10-778 which you asked for, if you need instructions for the pictured 10-816 please re-post the question.
Push the thumb slide forward as far as it goes exposing the blade. Press the blade change button on the side of the knife (the small button on the left side near the blade) and pull out the old blade.
Insert the new blade and slide thumb slide back to fully engage blade in the internal lock.
On the pivot end of the bladed knife is a black plug that says pull. They actually mean "Push". push it away from the knife body and rotate the handle half it's mounted in, down. The body will rotate in half , revealing the utility blade and more blades in the rear storage. Also note the blade depth adjustment has a locking detent. You have to push it to the right to unlock the utility blade.and push it to the right when retracting to fully retract and lock the utility blade.
Google: how to change blade in Stanley 10-379 utility knife. Stanley website shows how knife & blade look on the outside. Put it together so it looks like that. Sorry, but ain't don't know how to send the picture to you.
The gold looking circle on the side of the utility knife. Just unscrew that and it will pop open then you can change the blade. I looked everywhere and am unable to find the instruction or picture. I own one and that is why I am answering this for you. Please rate
Go to Dewaltservicenet.com and type in your model number in the middle of the page at the bottom. Select the model number I looked at a type 2 and click on it on the next page find instruction manual on the left hand side and I did have to click 2 times before it brought it up but it is there I just read part of it. The manual is about 17 pages long but the page you need is 11. Let me know if there are any problems please and if I have helped in anyway would you please rate the response accordingly.
