Can the Axim sync with a Linux desktop?
I am also curious if there is any development of running Linux on the Axim, Ipaq users do? Can anyone point me to someplace that has this information that relates to the Axim?

I know that the Xscale processor has a JTAG interface that will allow you to monitor / program etc the processor from your main system. This JTAG interface is supported by some open source linux/windows development tools .the hardware can be found at Macraigor Systems LLC.

Re:
I think the official answer from Dell is that Linux is not supported (as they don't include a conduit for it)....though I have a feeling it can be done....
As for running Linux on the Axim, there hasn't been anything developed yet. Chances are most of the stuff for running Linux on the iPAQ would work for the Axim, though there would have to be some tweaking to account for the hardware variance.

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA)
with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50
and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by
using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to
the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to
a computer using a sync cable.
p 1
The
Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the
PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PC Companion CD.
Step 2
The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
Step 3
Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.
Step 4
Check
the PDA. If the PDA is not properly cabled to the computer, you will
get the following message: “Connect your device to a computer using a
sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure that
ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync
connection is successful.”
Step 5
Ensure that the Dell logo faces upward.
Step 6
Use the sync cable to set up a partnership, which can be done multiple times when you sign in as a guest.
Well windows vista doesnt need any software to run the axim, it has a hardware feature on it to detect and sync to it. Ive never heard of this. I would be able to help better if i was in an instant message session with you and able to see things better. If you have google my account is: clintchance if YahoO! clintchance1101 hotmail: [email protected] (yeah i know, i dont like to change the username often.) If you can contact me on one of those i can help you better. Im usualy on after 3:00 PM CST
If it works with the iPAQ it should work on the Axim. For the most part, anything for Pocket PC 2002 and/or ARM based processors should work just fine on the Axim. I haven't tried it on the Axim either, but there is not reason it shouldn't work.
You won't be able to do that. Lotus Organizer as well as Lotus Notes and OutHook are PIM some plus e-mail, just like Palm Desktop is a PIM. So you can have the Treo sync with Lotus Organizer AND have the Axim sync with it also it is because there are conduits buit for them. There is a middleware that allows both to talk to one. Now if you can find a piece of software out there that will sync a PocketPC with Palm Desktop, I'm sure a lot of Palm converts would love to know that.
