Tip & How-To about Washing Machines
Tools needed: Phillips screwdrive, flathead screwdriver, putty knife, 3/8 inch nut driver.
Every model is different. So read though. While standing in front of washer there is a phillips screw on each side of console. Some models have a screw on each side but in back of console. Some models dont have screw so you will need a putty knife to slide under console on each side an push the clips inward and lift up on console. Once you have removed the screws or the clips lift the console and allow to flip upside down and the support hindges on the back of washer. Disconnect the quick connect the clips into another quick connect Brcketed on the frame. Remove the two gold curved shaped hinges one one each side with the flathead screwdriver.Tilt cabinet back and move it away from the washer. Unerneather you will see a quick connect with wires running to the lid switch. Remove the two phillips screws that are under the lid holding the lid switch in place. Remove the 3/8 inch nut holding the ground wire next to lid switch. There are also two hindges the hold the wires inside the lip of the frame. Pull hinges towards you enough to allow the wires to come out. Install new lid switch with the two phillips screws from the old one. Reconnect the 3/8 inch grounding wire to frame. Insert the wires back inbetween the hindges to hold wires. Snap the quick connect into the frame from underneathe. It can only go on one way. Once you have the new lid swtch installed than go back in front of washer. Place the cabinet back in place. Push the lower lip of the bottominside of cabinet back under lip of frame of washer. Gently tilt the cabinet back into place. Take your hand and make sure the glide (white plastic strips ) on the back frame line up and than put the gold hinges back in place. Than do the other side. Make sure its stable. Reconnect the lid switch quick connect. Place console back into place and make sure its snug. Put screws back in place. Now standing in front of washer. Tilt washer towards you to reset the self leveling legs. Now lift the lid and start your washer in spin cycle. Close the lid and open it until the basket returns to normal stopping mode. Keep doing this it usually takes 5-10 times increase speed of basket each time ( have lid closed longer for faster speeds). When the basket breaks are reset you will hear the breaks engage and the basket slowly comes to a stop. If you see it jerking or breaking hard The break package is not reset yet keep trying to reset. Once the break package is reset and the lid switch works good than its laundry time.
Future knowledge: Lid switches go out for a few different reasons. If you drop the lid and it hits the lid switch hard it can start damaging it. Wear and tear using your washer will wear them out over time. Most common is the dropping of the lid which breaks lid switch over time.
