- Consider disposing of waste toner yourself
Waste toner is not environmentally friendly. But, instead of replacing the waste toner bottle, check with environmental experts in your area for what to do with the waste toner. It may be a simple matter of collecting the toner in a coffee can and turning it in somehwere.
- Never buy toner cartridges
Nothing about toner cartridges for this printer ever really wears out from normal use. And, refilling them is clean and easy once you know how. But, more importantly, it costs about 90% to 95% less.
- Never replace parts just because the printer tells you to.
Serviceable OEM parts for this printer well outlast the printer's pushy insistance to replace them. All new serviceable parts come with a fuse. As soon as you install the part, the new fuse causes the printer to reset the page count for that part. Then, the printer blows the fuse. If the printer has been printing fine, but refuses to print because it claims a part must be replaced, remove the part, find the fuse, replace it, re-install the part, and voila!
- If a part really does need to be replaced, scavange parts from an abandoned 2200.
Chances are that plenty owners of this printer have gotten tired of replacing the over-priced parts. All you have to do is find one that has yet to dump the printer (like me... hint, hint).
