Tip & How-To about Sylvania G-Netbook
My SYNET07526 WiFi quit working five days ago, The WiFi symbol down in the lower right corner, (the small computer icon with two radiating waves) showed that the WiFi was working , because the red X did not show up indicating a no connect.
I checked the connection by double clicking on that icon and a window RT28701 opened up with the Default Gateway missing its address. This Default Gateway is the address of your home network computer, usually 192.168.1.1.that it needs. Of course the WiFi is working but it cannot hook to a home network because it doesn't know where to send the signal. The RT28701 has some kind of flaw or the load was compromised. I had to down load the new SYLVANIA Smart Book Operating System Update: found at the left bottom of the page at:
http://digitalgadgets.com/netbooks/7-in-netbook.htm
Now this is a totally new update of the operating system that replaces what you have now. They have substituted the program word with another, along with some additional programs.
You must follow the directions to the letter using another computer to make the SD card and transfer the Script file to the root of the SD card. When you put the SD card back in your Net book and reboot, the program erases your existing system and installs the new one. Do not do this unless you are comfortable flashing your machine. There has been instances where the machine was erased and the up date did not take rendering the machine inoperative. A SD card of 1-2Gb can be purchased for about 10 bucks.
If you decide to do this, you should take your time, maybe ask some one else to help and keep track of what you do. Also look on the internet for information under Flashing the ARM 8505. You can keep a copy of the operating system on the SD card and re-flash if things go wrong again. Also, if you become proficient flashing, you can put other operating systems on your machine such as Android or Linux and go back to your CE. Again, seek help at first!
Just found a You Tube Video of a demostration of the usage of the SYNET07526 which is fairly concise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l_79tXqhac&feature=player_embedded#!
It is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.
sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing
