EPSON Impact Printers on a Mac

Here is how to use the Dell 3010cn Color Laser Printer on Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard (or 10.3-10.5):

1) Install Ghostscript 8.64
http://www.openprinting.org/download...-8.64so-ub.dmg

2) Install Foomatic-RIP-4.0.2
http://www.openprinting.org/download...-4.0.2.211.dmg

3) Download the PPD
OpenPrinting database - Printer: Dell 3010cn

4) Add printer using USB or IP address (LPD or IPP protocol). Change driver from Autoselect/Generic to other, and find the PPD from 3).

SOLUTION

1. Download the attached file(s). You will probably just need the 24-pin PPD, but I have also included the 9-pin PPD (which I haven't tested) just in case.
2. Browse to the CUPS web interface at http: // localhost:631
   NOTE: The printer installer system from the GUI will NOT work. It will throw an error and promptly fail
3. Create the printer listing using the CUPS web interface, and when it asks for a PPD, point it at the one you just downloaded
4. PROFIT!!

1) Download and install this: http://www.ziddu.com/downloadlink/2820548/driver_iP1880.zip
You can just extract the file and double click on the .deb file.

2) Open System ? Administration ? Printing ? New Printer, to Select Connection chose Canon ip1800 series USB #1

3) in Printer driver chose: Provide PPD file

4) point that at: /usr/share/cups/model/canonip1800.ppd

5) Give the name of ip1880/ip1700/ip1980 ? Apply

6) Restart the computer

7) open the terminal and write: cd /usr/lib After that, press Enter

8) write in terminal: sudo ln -s ./libtiff.so.4.2.1 ./libtiff.so.3 press Enter

9) Now it should work

More comprehensive information to those who are looking to use the Epson LQ-300+ with Ubuntu.

You can download the ppd from http://www.cups.org/ppd/epson/en/eplq300.ppd.gz

I just copied the .gz (don't extract the ppd) file to /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/PPD/Epson/
(not sure where else I can put it).

Goto System->Administration->Printing and add a new printer. I have connected the printer with one of those cheap USB to Parallel cables. The printer is detected as EPSON LQ-300+

Select driver under Epson and you should see it listed as LQ-300+ 24 pin.

CAUTION!: The max resolution you can use under "Printer Options" is 360x180dpi. DO NOT select the highest 360dpi setting - your printer will go crazy and eat-up all your paper.

It works for me. I hope it works for you too.
