How to Troubleshoot Blinking Lights on a PS3 Controller

Video Guide to this tip is HERE Accessible>>

The controller for the PlayStation 3 is unique to any other previous PlayStation controller in that it is wireless. The controller is not physically plugged into the system, which means that you can still use it from any point in your room and you don't have to be a specific distance away from the PS3. Occasionally the controller will run into problems, which are often displayed to the user as a series of blinking lights on the controller itself.
Step 1 Move closer to the system. If you get too far away from the PlayStation 3, the controller will not be able to transmit its signal to the system. This will cause the lights to blink and the controller to become unresponsive.

  • Step 2 Recharge the controller. As the PS3 controller is wireless, it operates on an internal battery. If the battery becomes too low, the lights will start to blink, alerting the user that it needs to be plugged into the system to charge. Plug the controller into the system and charge it fully before attempting to use it again.
  • Step 3 Turn the controller on and off. If the lights start to blink and you can't determine the reason, turn the controller off and then back on again. This will clear its internal memory, essentially resetting it. When the controller comes back on it will operate as normal, without blinking lights.

my playstation3's harddrive burnt and i want to know if i can fix it?

If the Hard Drive is shot and burned, there isn't really a way to fix it. Your best off getting a new hard drive.

PS3 Controller will only work when plugged into the USB

I picked up the folling troubleshooting tips from the PlayStation Knowledge Center. I know it may seem silly or insulting; This is not my intention. Problems like this are usually just little things you're over-looking. Give thest tips a shot, one by one, and see if your solution is in here. If it isn't, message me back here & we'll try something else to get your controller working, ok? By the way... Is it a sixaxis controller or dualshock?
    • Verify if the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller works with the USB cable.
    • Verify that the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller's battery is charged.
    • Attempt to pair the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller to another PLAYSTATION 3 system. This helps determine whether the problem is with the system or the controller.
    • Attempt to connect another SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller to the PLAYSTATION 3.
    • Move closer to the PLAYSTATION 3 system. The maximum range for Bluetooth is 30 feet.
    • Make sure you have less than seven Bluetooth peripherals paired with the PLAYSTATION 3.
    • Unplug any other USB device plugged into the system when pairing the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller.
