Trying to connect 3 pc to a dlink switch

Hello,

I have an internet connection at home which 512 Mbps. I have bought Dlink Switch DES-1005d. I have 3 pc at home. I want to share the internet connection among the three pc. I have tried just by connecting the pc with CAT5 cables. I just have the received packet and then I do not have internet connection at all. Please can someone help me?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best Regards

how to connect des-1005d

The new model. Just plug it in. No configurations. Any port for any use. The selling point is unmanaged. Look for the problem somewhere else (including the cables) till you are sure it's the switch. Then it needs to be replace.

The older model uses standard cabling practices, but still very versatile.

My home network is such that I have a DLink Gigabit switch right behind my DSL router to dispatch network connections through the home. I already connected several devices that work without problem. One other connection goes to the study, where I want to add 4 more connections by using my Dlink DES-1005D. When I connect my PC (Vista, with 2 Gbit connections) to the switch it blinks a couple of times greenand then turns orange, resulting in limited connectivity and unable to access the internet. When I leave out the switch and connect my PC to the wall, all works fine, but than I cant connect my printer, my laptop,... Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Check the network settings of your pc in network and sharing, adapter settings , right click local area connection and press properties, click IPv4 and look at its properties. Ensure ip and DNS are bother set to auto.
press start, type cmd right click the grey chalk board press run as administrator. Type ipconfig /release then type ipconfig /renew
also try a different port/cable if it is a gigabit switch an orange light means it is running below the speed. I.e. 10/100 if it is working correctly the lights should be green.

2 pc connected but wont allow both on internet at once

Set up both pc's with dhcp. To do this, right click (My Network Places) in the start menu and choose properties. Right click your network connection and again choose properties. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then select properties. Choose (Obtain an IP Address Automatically). Then (OK) and again (OK). Do this on both pc's.
