How I Download and Upload data from my Explorist...

Summary:
Even though the Explorist 100 does not come with a data cable, or software to download or upload data to a computer, it is possible using an after-market cable and a nifty piece of software.
What I use:

special data cable = UGSM+GUGS from http://www.pc-mobile.net/usgm.htm

Note: be sure to download the software for the USB adaptor from here

GPSBabel software (free) from http://www.gpsbabel.org
A macintosh iMac and a Macintosh Macbook (but it should work fine on a PC)

What I do:

attach the cable to the back of the 100 as shown here
READ the pages at pc-mobile carefully!
Either use the GUI version or command line version of GPSbabel

See examples below for some usage tips....
Examples:

[command line] - output to Google earth format!

~/applications/gps/current/gpsbabel -t -i 'magellan' -f /dev/cu.usbserial -o kml -F 2-feb-08-track.kml
~/applications/gps/current/gpsbabel -w -i 'magellan' -f /dev/cu.usbserial -o kml -F 2-feb-08-waypoint.kml
~/applications/gps/current/gpsbabel -r -i 'magellan' -f /dev/cu.usbserial -o kml -F 2-feb-08-route.kml

where...
-t = tracks
-w = waypoints
-r = routes
-i = input format
-f = input file
-o = output format
-F = output file

Troubleshooting:

If you get a speed or connectivity error from GPSbabel:

[on a Mac] check to see if /dev/cu.usbserial exists usng a terminal
retry the command ... sometimes the 100 doesn't seem to initialise properly

My Explorist 210 does not connect with any computer. What can I do.

Hello,
What is happening is your computers are not recognizing your unit. Means you have to update unit via the registered site for updates.
Hello,

first Perform a hardware reset to return the minor settings of the GPS to the original condition. Press the small "Reset" button on the side of the unit for several seconds until it powers off and powers back on.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then it means you will have to perform a firmware upgrade to put the GPS back in order.

Download and install the Content Manager software available for free from the Magellan support website. Connect your GPS to your computer with a USB cable, and the software will automatically search for firmware updates for your GPS.

Determine Connection and Equipment Needed

How do I connect my Motorola w375 to PC

try downloading the motorola usb drivers and installing them.
i would try that first.

you could also get motrola phone tools software which comes with the drivers and can transfer the photos from your phone

year old explorist 100 doesn't work anymore

Even though your sister has lost the receipt, many stores have the ability to look up purchases at the store provided she used a credit card. You can not do this over the phone. You will need to have your sister go to the store and ask them to look up her purchase with her credit card. If it is a recent purchase and still within the product warranty you may be able to get a replacement. Good luck.
