Basic troubleshooting for a portable no post is a fairly straight forward process.
- Disconnect any external devices and power the system on, see what symptoms occur. Does the system have power? Does it have any Video? Does the system flash LED lights or beep?
- If the system is getting power but not starting, and not indicators give any troubleshooting hints, then we simplify the system by removing all items we can and see if we get basic function. Items to remove are Battery, RAM modules, Wireless Cards and the drives. Depending on the design, some of these can't be removed by the user but most can be removed.
- If the system will now power on and give some sort of error (LED FLASH, BEEP etc) then Add 1 RAM module back to the system and see if you get video and errors about not being able to boot. If you do, start adding items back to the system one at a time and identify the failing component.
- If nothing makes any successful boot, then most likely failure is the mainboard (Motherboard) of the system.
