Satellite signal taking ages to come up

When the GPS device is not able to receive (more than 3 or 4) satellite signals, it will continue to search. This may take a while ... or if you're indoors or under cover of some (solid) obstructions, it may not happen. So, make sure you have clear views of the skies when you are trying to get satellite signals.
Consider regularly updating the GPSQuickFix file (by connecting your GPS using TomTom HOME) to download the positions of the satellites (over the next 7 days). It may help.

Replace the battery!. Maximum life is two years. If you have not fully charged it by usb or ac prior to a trip and then connected it to the 12v car outlet before starting the engine the battery becomes damaged overtime.
Battery level determines the time it takes to make a connection. Always keep it charged. Never plug it into 12v car power when starting engine. This will not only shorten the life of the battery, but wiull damage the SIIRF chip.

try updating with the latest GPSfix updates via the tomtom home software

GPSfix updates are renewed weekly because the satelites are constantly moving

Download the latest software tomtom home and do a gpsquickfix. THis will solve the problem and tell the unit where the satellites are for the next 7 days. May need to do gpsquickfix often.

okay found the solution. Shipped with outdated software. Had to use tomtom home to get the new version of software and gpsquickfix and now it works fine. No resets. Can turn it off and now I am getting all it is finding all satellites.
