HOW TO STUFF A KONG DOG TOY AND WHAT TO STUFF IT WITH

Kong toys are one of the top selling brands of dog toys. They are durable and safe. I have 4 dogs and they all love playing with their stuffed Kong toys.

How to stuff a Kong toy:

  • Try squeezing the toy from the side so that the opening becomes oval-shaped, thus making it easier to get the stuffing inside
  • If the filling is more of a liquid, try mixing the ingredients in a Ziploc bag and trimming the corner allowing you to "pipe" the filling into the toys' opening.
  • To keep liquid stuffing from running out, try blocking the bottom of the hole with a solid piece of food. This will also help keep your dog occupied for a longer period of time.
  • Try lining the sides of the toy with something like honey or peanut butter and place it in the freezer.

I will attach a link here of a great instructional video that will further help you in learning how to stuff your Kong toy.

In regards to the types of stuffing, there are endless amounts of items you can choose from. One of the more popular items is peanut butter; however I try not to use it too often as it can be quite fatty for dogs.

Here is a list of some other items I like to use:

Honey

Mashed bananas

Dog biscuits

Cream cheese/cottage cheese

The following site will provide you with several recipes that your dog will love as well as a few more stuffing tips.

Are plush toys safe to give to your dog?

Dogs love stuffed animals to play with; the problem is that they tend to rip them to shreds. If you do want to give your pet a stuffed animal you should ensure that they are particularly made for dogs. This gives you the peace of mind that the toy will be durable and that it contains no small parts that can be ingested.
