Tip & How-To about Philips Televison & Video
I had a problem with my philips 29" CRT TV model 29PT2452/94S. The LOT was leaking at the lower portion of the cable that goes to the anode of the picture tube. Since a good replacement of the LOT was not available, I did the following: I wound a good insulation tape on the area where I noticed the puncture. I removed the cap and de-soldered the connector that goes into the picture tube top. Then inserted a thick insulation sleeve removed from a piece of underground telephone cable which was a tight fit. Then I cut a long piece of petrol tube that we normally use for two wheelers, and inserted it all the way upto the area of puncture. Then refit the anode connector back as it was. The problem got solved. But the TV shut down immediately after switch on. When I entered into service mode, it showed error 11. I replaced the RGB amplifier IC TDA6107 on the CRT PCB, adjusted the screen and focus control. Replaced all the electrolytic capacitors (48 Nos.) as the TV was around 8 years old. Now the TV is working like a brand new one! (Caution: Please remove anode cap only after discharging the residual charge that remains [Tube is a very large capacitor!]. See any guidance available in net or consult a technician before you ever touch anywhere near the LOT thick cable that goes to the top of the Picture Tube, even when the TV power plug is removed! Beware: You should have basic knowledge of TV servicing before you ever attempt to do such service]
