Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

Why your Whirlpool made washer tkes so long to fill w/cold water

Hello,

What i believe the problem is,is that the solonoid that opens the cold water side of the water inlet valve is very weak and hardly opening the valve on the cold side...and the water inlet valve needs to be replaced.

Firstly though before replacing the valve,turn off the cold water tap,remove the hose from the back of the water inlet valve and check for sediment in the filter screen that is blocking the water from coming into the washer...if you dont see much sediment in the filter screen the water valve will indeed be the problem

The part number for that water valve is 285805 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;

my washing machine takes forever to fill with just cold water. the hot water runs into the machine good, but when i use just cold water it rickles in.

Hello,

The solonoid coil that opens the cold water part of the inlet valve is weak and the water valve could be replaced to fix that trickle of the cold water. The hot and cold both fill trough the same water inlet valve, with two solonoids on it ..one for the hot and one for the cold.

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II; when I choose cold water, it takes at least 2 hours to fill the tub. Warm water will fill but the cold water comes out in two very small streams. Any help would be appreciated.

You likely have either a folded cold inlet hose (squashed) or self plumbing tap that is rusted in the cutter so slow filling or a blocked mesh filter in the cold hose connection on the back of the machine, try all three and you should have the answer.

ultimate care washer is very slow to fill on the cold side. I have cleaned the inlet screen and swapped the lines to test things. What could be the problem inside the machine?

Hello,

The problem is going to be the water inlet valve..the solonoid for the cold water side is very weak and hardly opening. The water inlet valve should be replaced to fix the washer

I have a Kenmore Series 80 washing Model#110.26892690 Serial # CF4845846. Does it have a filter for the water. The cold water does not come through very fast. If it does. Where is it?

yes it has a screen built into the water inlet valve where the hoses attach at
to access that screen turn off the faucets and remove the hoses where they attach to the valve then usea small flat blade screwdriver and gently pry that screen out.I do suspect that you wont find hardly any build up on that screen so in that case the valve would need to be replaced since the solonoid is weak and not opening it up as much as when it was new
