I have the E5965C model
There are different kinds of rechargeable batteries. NiCad and LI ion. There are also carbon batteries that can be recharged.
I get Warning! use
Reboot the base :-Make sure the handset is HF and not on the base.-Disconnect the base from the power supply and remove the batteries (only the base's, don't remove the handset:s batteries), soon, after a few seconds at most, the handset not finding the base when scanning for it, should go off by itself.-Wait a moment (60 sec should be plenty) then reverse the last step (batteries+power-supply).When reboot is completed (watch for the normal screen on the LED display) just put the handset back on the base again, 'voila' !

Try cleaning the contacts on the handset and the base unit with surgical spirit or some other form of pure alcohol. A cotton bud soaked in spirit is a useful method.
If that does not work you may have a faulty (old) battery in the handset that needs replacing.

To register an AT&T SynJ SB67108 handset to a new SB67138 base unit, you will need to follow these steps:
- Make sure the new base unit is plugged in and turned on.
- Press and hold the "Menu" button on the handset until the display shows "Menu."
- Use the navigation buttons to select "Registration" and press "Select."
- Select "Base" and press "Select."
- The handset will begin searching for the new base unit.

- Select the new base unit and press "Select" to complete the registration process.
- The handset should now be registered with the new base unit.
Note: if you have multiple handset you need to register, repeat step 2-7 with each handset.
