We are having the exact same problem. Looks like we either got a dud or the thing is a piece of junk.

The On button on mine worked, the clock could be set, it was functional, but we still had no sound. So I removed the screws off the bottom of the laptop and saw that the yellow line to the sound speaker had completely detached and needed to be soldered back on. After that it worked perfect.

I sent an email to [email protected] which is customer service for Blue Hat Toy Company. She emailed me a PDF file manual for the Teach and Talk Laptop. Without the manual you would never be able to get the game functions figured out.....

Hi I have seen this problem many many times before in my shop, it is the Keyboard matrix,or connection, often the matrix goes open circuit,and this stops that row,or group, of keys for responding the way it should, eventually it will fail all together. sometimes the keyboard connector can become dislodged a little and may make poor or intermittent contact on certain "lines" and this to will cause this, symptom too, so this must be checked first.
The only fix is replacement of the entire keyboard, they are quite cheap and easy to replace, of course one must check first the connector where it mates to the main board, and see if this is firm and OK, if it is OK then it is not that, and then it will be the keyboard.
If you don't wish to DIY, then take it to a reputable repair center and ask for a "Quote"as to the costings and go from there, is my best professional advise.(Perhaps contact the manufacturer and ask for a referral to an authorised service center)
I am not familiar with this exact type of laptop,however IF they have a USB port, then as a work around an external USB keyboard may be able to be used?

From doing much research on this product. There is a malfunction to many aspects of this toy. If you recently got this and/or know what store it came from bring it back! Blue Hat is going to go under as they are producing appealing yet faulty toys for kids. There are many reports to the BBB regarding how poorly built and designed this kids "laptop" is. There remains no trouble shooting that you can do. Even if by chance you monkeyed with the volume buttons to magically get the volume back the unit will stop working all together within 1-3 months. Best of luck and hope you can return or exchange. Best to go with V-Smile as they have a much better warranty, exchange for similar product etc. Sometime V-tech/V-smile will even pay for your shipping in of a product for them to discover what went wrong so they can correct the problem on new editions of same product line.

The issue might be due to corrupted audio drivers or incorrect audio settings. Reinstalling the audio drivers will fix the issue.
