  1. Download this file.
  2. Copy it onto your SD card. Be sure not to put it in any folders.
  3. Turn you phone off. Now hold down the power and volume-down buttons to enter the bootloader. Follow the instructions to update to Android 2.1

HTC might help you with this because it is so new. However if you dropped it (etc.) and if HTC doesn't replace it for you, You can get the part at HTC Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to put in the part at HTC G1 Repair Guide.

Most probably there is a lose contact which heats up and deforms during usage, or can be deformed with the slightest pressure in your hands - therefore it can be switched on only when it either cools down and your press it in some particular way. Or both simultaneously.
This problem will never fix itself - ff you really want to use your phone and trust that it will work, you should ask a repairman to fix it.
Is the warranty period still lasting? Then you should ship it back to the dealer/manufacturer. First you will be required to cover the shipping costs, but you should arrange that they refund these costs if they find out that the problem with phone was not your fault. That's because consumer law in any civilized country states that the seller shall cover all expenses related to warranty service repair if it wasn't your fault, but you should cover all costs if the problem was caused by you.
If the nearest HTC warranty service is far away, and you don't want to spend long time to have it fixed - then it might be more useful to find a repairman in your proximity (unofficial repair services are usually quite cheap).

Here's where to get hold of solutions to this common problem.

it's most likely cos

1. you don't have drivers for the usb

2. You haven't enabled usb connectivity
Make sure USB Debugging is turned on. On the G1 click the Menu button and go to Settings > Applications > Development and check USB Debugging if it isn't already.

3. If everything fails, you may need to check your cable to see if it's still okay. borrow another one or buy cheaply from a reputable seller on ebay.

for more info.

The slot is covered and you need to open it. Its aside the call button and you need to flit it up first. Then you will see a little cover, open it and insert the card.

At the time when you enter a wrong pin number three times the phone asks you for a PUK number. The PUK code is generally eight digit number. This PUK number is an unlocking code which helps you to unlock the phone and use it. If you enter a wrong PUK number 10 times than you simcard gets rejected. Then you will have to buy a new simcard. It might happen that your phone might ask you for PUK2 after you enter your PUK number. You can find the PUK code is in your SIM card documentation Starter Pack. If you do not have this then contact your phone service provider. Your cell phone service provider can give you the PUK code once they have confirmed your identity to prevent any stolen SIM access.

Is your computer able to read the card with an SD adapter? If so, back up any information on it to the computer. Put card back in phone and go to settings->storage->unmount SD card->then format SD card. Allowing the phone to format the card usually has better results than formatting it in Windows because it's going to use the correct file system type.

Hope this helps

The non-gmail mail app does not support changing the signature on the version of Android OS that is loaded onto the HTC Dream/G1. In the Gmail app do the following:

1. push the menu button to bring up the menu options for the Gmail app.
2. select settings from the menu signature and enter your desired message
4. press OK to save or cancel to void your entry.

i cant upload my picture to my laptop

HTC G1 | Answered on Feb 22, 2011 | 112 views

Step 1: Plug in your USB cable to your G1 T-mobile phone as well as the computer.
Step 2: On your G1 T-mobile phone you will see a small icon at the top of the screen that symbols the USB.
Step 3: Pull down the notification window down and click on USB Connection.
Step 4: Automatically on your laptop computer or just computer a window will pop up giving you the option of importing pictures and copying them or just viewing them.

These steps are the correct steps.....T-mobile G1 technical support has not yet modify these steps or include them on the T-mobile G1 manual.
