Replace the temperature sensor. Here is the part to order.The sensor is located on the coils in the freezer.

I would look for bad door gaskets. Sounds crazy but if you have bad gaskets, you will let in more moist air and the freezer will freeze up faster. If the fridge is freezing up I would look at the slide from the freezer to the fridge and see if it is stuck open. During the defrost cycle the unit should drain and fill the drain pan, but the normal operation of the compresser should be able to evaporate the water with ease. Look at the door gaskets and the vent. Good luck

Remove the panel. Check the heater and bimetal thermostat for continuity. If either is open then easy fix. Note: thermostat only has continuity if cold. when the frig senses a lack of use, it goes into the cooling off mode to save energy. press the power freeze and freezer buttons for 3 seconds to reset.
