Try using the camera on another application to see if it freezes there to. If it still freezes then it could be some software that is running in the background. If it doesn't freeze on another application then you know its a problem with MSN.

If it does still freeze then go into msconfig from your start menu by typing "msconfig" in the search box or the run option depending on what operating system your running.

You would click on the startup tab and then disable all to disable all the programs that startup when your boot up into windows.

Reboot the laptop and try the camera again, if it doesn't freeze then at least you know its a piece of software running in the background and you'll have to figure out which one is causing the problem.

If it still freezes then you know its either a problem with the camera or a problem with windows.

The bios is working fine its the little program that runs the system like run the setup, entering set up is not running because the file are not there you need to use and run setup from a cd

What kind of warranty did you purchase? most of the new laptops come with a 1 year warranty, so the replacement should be covered.

As far as whether or not it is normal, it does happen from time to time that the parts of a laptop are defective which is the reason for the warranty. There are 2 ways you can reset your bios.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete


This is a great troubleshooting step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Do you get the Dell logo when first turned on? if yes this indicates hard drive trouble, but if there is no logo the problem will be motherboard, first remove one ram memory stick, if no change remove second piece and replace the first, no improvement it is time to have the motherboard assessed.

If you forgot; remove cmos battery for a while; then use F2 to setup bios again to boot.
