It sounds like the touchpad wire wasn't reconnected..
My laptop won't hold a charge. have a new battery
Is the battery a genuine Dell battery? 3rd party batteries can be high quality or crap, just depends on the maker. Regardless, when you attempt to charge it, does it at least take a charge even though it won\'t hold it? Or does the battery refuse to accept a charge at all? When you plug in your laptop, does the charge light come on? Does the the battery level icon on the lower-right corner of the screen show it\'s plugged in? I know, lots of questions.

Hello dear, apparently you get (do not give much information about it) Control panel> Device and manager and see there devices that the computer has recognized, should not receive the bluetooh, you can include add device top left .
Why no sound
Anonymous,
First open up the sound properties icon on the taskbar and verify that nothing is muted. You can download and install the Audio Drivers for the Inspiron 1420 at the link below.

HOW TO RESET gOOGLE CHROME BROWSER SETTINGS

Restore factory setting
John,Dell Factory Image Restore
The Dell Factory Image Restore tool replaces PC Restore. Access it from the F8 boot menu while booting up.
Once you have all the options on the screen, choose repair your computer and follow the prompts to restore.
CAUTION:
This utility formats the operating system hard drive partition prior to
restoring the factory image. This means data on that partition is deleted and
cannot be recovered. If the customer creates a secnd partition with a
third-party utility, Dell Factory Image Restore is not affected as long as the
image partition is not removed. Thank You,Dell-Jesse LDell Social Media and Communities

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :-

Both my space bar and M key are off. I dont know how to fix it.
There are multiple different designs for laptop keys - so the exact procedure may vary from one machine to another. A good source for instructional videos is:http://www.laptopkey.com/installation_guides.php#modnumIn your case, I would order and replace the existing keyboard, and keep the old keyboard for parts should a key come off in the future. If you've never replaced a laptop keyboard before, the procedure isn't difficult, but you need to exercise extreme care when disconnecting/connecting the ribbon cable to the motherboard. If you break this connector, you'll end up having to replace the motherboard. You can find replacement keyboards, and instructions, easily by typing in "Inspiron 1420 keyboard replacement" in Google.Good luck!
Takes me directly to system recovery options..please help?
First try this, Cold-start the laptop, unplug from AC, remove battery, leave battery out during this process, plug in try to boot normally. If that fails unplug, plug in push the on/off button and press and hold the CTRL and F11 key to get to system restore, restore to a date before this issue. If that fails download the Windows Repair Disk. Look at this search for different options:http://www.google.com/webhp?source=search_app#hl=en&tbo=d&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=windows+vista+repair&oq=windows+vista+re&gs_l=hp.1.1.0l4.2046.10975.0.16778.16.10.0.6.6.0.125.870.7j3.10.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.RlorNsNydKI&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=68c9fa997504ab57&bpcl=38897761&biw=1034&bih=547
