Take off the cover on the inside door of the lock. Grip it on the sides and pull up or twist. Press the Program button (on the left of the power board) once. Then type in desired code (4-8 digits) on the Touchpad followed by pressing the Lock button. If you hear a 2-second beep, the code is properly stored. If you don't hear the beep, the encoding period timed out. Then you need to repeat the sequence from pressing the Program button but do it faster. To store a second code, press the Program button twice and then type in the desired code followed by the Lock button. (Any earlier code will be lost during these steps.) Then replace the cover over the power board.

Our powerbolt does not work well in the cold. It
Batteries, when they are cold, do not give off the same amount of power. You can test this by putting them in a freezer for a few hours and then trying them in a battery operated device. They cold does not hurt them, and they will work fine once they warm up. Depending on how cold the batteries get for your deadbolt this could be the problem. Also if the deadbolt is rubbing at all against the lock plate it could put unnecessary pressure on the motor. Schlage does make a deadbolt system that uses a keypad and a manual turn. - Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
I contacted customer support... they tell me the FAQ information on
their own website is incorrect. The opposite is true, therefore the
following is correct:
- If it does not beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced
- If the unit continues to beep, the keypad needs to be replaced
