You should be able to push it forwards as well as backwards. I had a similar problem (engine stalling) with mine. I found out if I half choke it, it will stay running. Transmission may still have a problem.

Sounds like your timing is out..or the valve slap needs adjusted..When this happens the inake valve is partly open during the firing stoke allowing some of the exaust to go back through the intake..and out the carb..good good luck

do you mean stuck as in the pulley doesnt turn? or stuck as in the arm that the pulley is attached to will not pivot? if its the pulley, replace the pulley. If its the lever, you will probably have to clean dirt or debris from between it and the cutting deck.

try jumping your battery with your car/battery. If that works, charge your battery and/or adjust your valves. If it doesnt, try jumping directly to the starter from the battery. If that works, get a new starter solenoid. If it doesnt, get a new starter.

need more info. if it seems loose and wobbly, you need to replace it. If the whole arm is not moving, it may have grass or dirt between it and the deck...clean it out. if its not dissengaging or takes a long time to dissengage, you may need to re attach the return spring.

Is it a Briggs or Kohler motor,and since it is a 24 hp I take it it has overhead valves.3 thousand on the valves semms awful tight unless it has hydrolic lifters.I always set both intake and exhaust at 5 to7 thousand. will it turn over by hand with no plugs in ?does it lock up when using starter ? (look at starter shaft bent)I know this sounds stupid but are both pistons moving freely or is connecting rod blown.You could have a bent valve stem.

I take it its a Briggs motor It sounds like 2 possibilities 1 possible half sheared flywheel key causing out of time conditions 2 carb is dirty not due to your new gas filter but dirt through air inlet and needs to be taken off diassembled and cleaned (carb cleaner and determine all jets and small orfice holes are clean.

The switch is on the dash bezel, the electric clutch is on the deck. Some clutches can be adjusted but I need the model number of your mower first.

You have a short to ground. Look for places the wiring goes through metal housings.
