Briggs Stratton H7159 & Stratton® 5500, 10 HP Generator - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Where is the stator on the model 580 3256 generator
On a motor or generator, the stator is the non-moving frame or housing. The stator holds the stationary electrical windings.
The rotating windings are on the armature or rotor. The rotor is
supported by and spins in ball or sleeve bearings that are on the end
bells (or caps) of the motor assembly. Power is passed to them via
brushes in the stator to slip rings or commutator on the rotor.
Engine will not run, but will start with a
Sound`s like your not gettimg fuel. 1 take fuel line loose from carb. (have a bolt handy to plug gas line unless the gas is old then drain gas into a suitable container for disposal.)2nd take fuel bowl off of carb. should be 1 bolt thru the bottom holding the bowl on. Be carefull not to tear gaskett. Float assy. should drop down, but should not fall out. 3rd take aresole can of carb. cleaner with the straw attached and clean the float bowl, the float area. watch for over spray onto painted area, wear glasses to protect eyes. wipe off overspray as soon as possible.4th clean jet, place straw i,nto small metal tube that looks like a part of a metal inkpin located in the center of the float comming up from the bottom. 5th,open the choke/throttel plate inside the large opening in the carb and spray that area if you can see any metal trubes in that area place the straw into that and spray.Re assemble in reverse ordear that you took it apart. Be sure to pay attention to the gaskett or you will have leak`s. rre fill with fresh gas should start and run. If you do not use equipment every week then you may want to put a gas additive into the gas tank to help prevent this from reacureing. I use a product called Sea Foam Good Luck
At first did not start.
Check this carb for a solenoid on the SIDE of the carb and make sure the solenoid is connected. I think what happened is that it initally started and worked fine and then the solenoid power wire became disconnected. CHeck to power wire of the solenoid. I am using H7159 as the engine type / Chinese OHV engine with side solenoid carb as my reference. If you have a different engine number like GN220 GN320 or GN340 I need to know which one. Also make sure the fuel selector from the fuel tank is ON. If you removed the carb to clean it... you may have installed the linkage in the wrong hole on the top of the throttle shaft. Most have up to 3 holes. I just need too know which engine to better help you. Kelly
Cant get a spark from plug turning over ok,tried
hate to say this but if you used the generator and put it away with out running the gas out your carburator is messed up and it will never start. It not the plug its the gas which has about 10% suger in it. When you leave it sit for ver like 6 to 10 weeks the suger jams the jets.
I did the same dumb thing I had a knee operation and I forget to run my bike dry before. when I went out to start it. well 500,00 carb job.
Best of luck and sorry I could not give you the button to push and make it better

Hey dont forget to rate us and let us know how well we did.
Gasoline in mixed with oil
Gasoline in the oil is indication of fuel leaking past the needle and seat when the engine is not running (also high pressure in the fuel tank). You may be able to continue to use the generator with weak needle and seat (change oil) , however you must shut off the fuel when the engine is off. Easy fix however by installing carb kit. Find model number of the engine (stamped on fan cover) and contact small engine repair shop or look on line. Do not run the engine with gas in oil. Good luck.
I have a 6.5 B&S
Normally when you move the throttle control on the handle, all that is happening is that governor spring tension is increasing or decreasing pull on the linkage /governor arm. With engine off and plug wire removed, look for a small shaft coming out of the engine with an arm attached. Attached to the small arm will be linkage to the throttle on carb.. So when you move the throttle on the carb with your finger the arm moves also. There should be spring connected to opposite side of governor arm connected to throttle control at the handle or small lever or metal tab. When you incease pull on the spring, the engine will speed-up. Adjust as needed. Good luck
Mine starts and runs only
pull apart the carb, sounds like the float is getting hung up.Also clean out the fuel tank and add new fuel and add a gas stable pruduct, also excersise the unit at least once a month, generators like to run
I am trying to figuare out what type of oil to put
Hi b_fesperman,
Here is Briggs&Stratton's webpage with the oil specs for their engines: http://www.briggsandstratton.com/engines/support/frequently-asked-questions/Engine%20Oil%20Recommendations/
Copy and paste the entire address into your browser and the information will open for you. Note that synthetic 5W30 can be used in all temps.
Hope this helps. If it does, please place a vote for me. Thanks,
