For the best results, I recommend you to use Canon rechargeable (NiMH) batteries. Rechargeable batteries provide the best performance and are the most economical choice.
Else......
AA alkaline batteries such as those from Energizer or Duracell will provide the best performance for non-rechargeable batteries.

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

Use the camera not a computer to reformat the "card" or internal memory.
Make sure the setting in the camera is set to record on the card or internal memory. Whichever you are using.

Your site gave no clue that it was a pay-for-service store, and I think this tactic sucks.

Use a card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop.

Use a separate card reader to download your pictures.

Unfortunately this needs to be returned to your dealer to be repaired properly

Pushing or pulling the lens is futile.. unless you are extremely lucky

This usually signifies the end of the the cameras life as you can buy a new camera for the cost of the repair!

Is the camera placed on a cold place and then taken outside a warmer place? This can cause moisture on the camera's lens. Have you tried wiping the lens already?

Also, try not to use the flash when taking the picture. This is just to test if the problem could be a flash issue.

This could be a failing SD card causing corruption of the stored files (the SD card isn't an ebay special is it? there have been some very bad quality cards coming from China recently). Recommend first trying another brand of SD card.

After you've tried another card and it's still doing this, then the symptoms could also be impending CCD image sensor failure. Unfortunately you cannot fix this yourself. But as the A2000 is a relatively new camera, it's likely that you've owned it less than one year and it's still under warranty.

If in US or Canada, call 1-800-OK-CANON to arrange for warranty repair.

Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

The reason this occurred is that you likely never formatted the card. The card will work fine in the beginning but eventually will corrupt. AFTER you've recovered the photos, format the card IN YOUR CAMERA to prevent this from happening again (dig out that instruction manual to figure out how). Keep in mind formatting will also totally erase your card, so again only do this after you've recovered the photos.

The card may be corrupted and unusable. Try with a new SD Card. If that doesn't work, you need Canon Service. Try formatting it in the computer, add images and see if you can see the images in the camera.

If the batteries are the same age as the camera, they are probably worn out. Try replacing them.
