Both the flush buttons have jammed in the flush position.

To open the assembly, first line up the flush buttons with the float mechanism. This aligns tabs on the button mechanism with a slot on the mating surface allowing you to 'pop' the button assembly off with the help of a screwdriver. It will also prevent breaking off the tabs. If you break off the tabs, the button assembly will not lock in place when you reassemble it (speaking from experience).
2. Carefully pop off the button assembly with the help of a screwdriver.
3. Disengage the lever from the valve assembly by carefully prying with a screwdriver (see video).
4. Pop off the lever from the axle on button assembly and remove.
5. With some fine grit sand paper or emery cloth, polish the casting marks off of the axle.
6. Reassemble the mechanism. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.

My Kohler K4493-AA occasionally produces a high-pitched whine like a smoke alarm. Flushing stops it, but then the sound comes back later. Any ideas?

Typically it's one of two things. Either there is debris (Sand, gravel or hard water deposits) under the seal diaphragm inside the fill valve or the diaphragm has deteriorated. Shut off the water to the tank, take the cap off of the fill valve and remove the diaphragm. If the diaphragm has deteriorated, replace it Kohler #83143. Otherwise, rinse it off, turn the water on just a bit to let it bubble over the top of the fill valve and rinse out any debris. Then with the water trickling, put the diaphragm back in and replace the top assembly. When all is secure, turn the water back on to full.

How do you stop a kohler men urinal stall from consistently running?

Usually this is caused by a sticky valve. The "low-tech" repair method is to just thump the top of the valve fairly hard with your fist. The correct method would involve disassembly and cleaning of the valve interior, or even possibly replacement.

The water runs when I turn the main shutoff back on even though the faucet is off

A grommet seal has disolved. You need to turn off the water main and replace or rebuild the affected shut-off valve or faucet. Use a Monkey wrench. .

Sewer smell drain

are there any floor drains in the room and an unused bathtub or shower? if so the water may have evaporated from the trap and allow the sewer gas smell. try pouring water into all the drains and see if it is still happening. more elaborate problem may be a broken vent stack in a wall.

Low water pressure from my shower.

You probably have a water flow reducer in the shower head. It is a rubber disk with a few holes in it. Just remove it and put the shower head back on. They are installed at the factory to save our environment. (Mine are all removed)

K-1357 kohler whirlpool tub there is leaking only when the tub is filled and drained. when taking showers there are no leaks 3yrs old

Overflow? Seal around drain may be good enough for shower, but leaks with a little more pressure from the filled tub. Filled tub may flex the tub and drain components. What about the overflow. I bet some water is going over, but it isn't used for showers. Double check. Paper towels tied in stratigic locations always help me find a leak. Leak makes the towel soak up water nearby. It's most wet at the point of leak.

How to remove large gasket from Kohler toilet that leaks

You will need to remove the tank by locating the long screws on each side of the water outflow outlet. Take those bolts out and then you can lift the tank up and thus you will access to the large gasket.

Our local housing inspector says a toilet fill valve must be anti-siphon. I have Kohler k-9262 fill valves in my bathrooms. Are these anti-siphon models?

the fill valve is under constant mains pressure so it will not siphon out. However if there is a problem you can buy a non-return valve from your local hardware/plumber shop and fit it in the line between the cistern tap and the cistern

We have a almost 4.5 year old k-4709 is it worth fixing dripping in the back of the seat middle. could my handyman repair

I would try to repair only if you have the knowledge to do so. It can be tricky and may not be permanent. Weigh the cost of a new one vs repairing it. Toilets generally last a lifetime other than the moving parts.
