You can install xp on a vista laptop, you will need an xp install cd and you will need to backup your data (it will be erased in the downgrade process). go to the BIOS settings find SATA hard disk enable/disable (should be disable), OR if it is showing something different like SATA , PATA, IDE....then u have to change SATA to IDE save and exit from BIOS,run the setup again. good luck.....
