The fan on my 3100 runs normal when I first boot up then it starts running faster and faster then it tottaly shuts down. the fan works fine. could this be the processor?

The Thermal Paste in-between the Processor, and Heatsink, has dried up.Use a plastic scraper to clean top of Processor, and bottom of Heatsink. I use an old credit card. Scrape off as much as you can.Use Q-tips dipped in Isopropyl Alcohol. Don't worry about dripping off, alcohol will evaporate.Takes a LOT of alcohol dipped Q-tips, as it's usually a gooey mess.CAUTION!! Isopropyl alcohol is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE!Use in a WELL ventilated area with NO sparks or flames present. When the Processor, and Heatsink are clean, and dry; properly apply fresh, new Thermal Paste.http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3999975&CatId=503http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/How-To-Correctly-Apply-Thermal-Paste/274http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3440586http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01049892&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3440586http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07139&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3440586FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions. If you are not aware post back in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette[Plus your computer is probably dirty inside. How do I remove the harddrive from the HP Slimline S3100n?

Shut down the power to your HP Slimline computer.

Remove any memory cards or other devices from the desktop.

Disconnect the power cord and peripheral devices from the computer.

Lay the computer flat on your work surface.

Remove the three screws on the rear of the computer cover with a Phillips screwdriver.

Slide the cover toward the back of the computer then lift it off the tower.

Set the cover aside.

Raise the wire latch in front of the hard drive mounting area.

Pull the cables straight out of the connections to disconnect them from the hard drive. Unscrew the retaining screw in the side of the mounting tray with a Phillips screwdriver.

Grab the tab on the hard drive tray and slide it back out of the mounting area. Remove the screws that secure the hard drive to the tray with a Phillips screwdriver.

There are four screws, one on each corner.

Slide the hard drive out of the tray.

hope this helps

You can get the drivers by going to the manufacturers web site. As far as the programs, most of it was nothing but bloat that clogs up your machine so you're probably better off without them. Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download andinstall the drivers.

My stratego game will not play on window 7 was wondering if there is a patch for it?

Hi Tony,Have you tried to run the game using Windows compatibility mode? You can do this by right-clicking on the game's launch icon and selecting "Troubleshoot compatibility" from the drop-down menu.Select the operating system from the list which worked with your game.Windows 7 will apply settings which replicate the version of Windows you choose from the list.Best wishes,Graemevm

I have no display even at start it doesn't turn on my monitor

Hi Anthony,Does the PC actually start up? In other words do the front panel lights come on and can you see the power supply fan turn at the rear where you plug in your power cable? If so, try removing the RAM memory from the motherboard, clean the connectors with some surgical spirits or anti-static spray, then replace the RAM firmly back in their slots and try turning on your PC again.Let me know if you still have a problem after following this procedure.Best wishes,Graemevm

Computer is dead. hp

A Totally dead PC can usually mean that the the power supply has quit.
If you've ever replaced a power supply
in a desktop (or Slimline) PC, it takes about an hour, but if its your first time, take your time, and
allocate half a day.
3 vital tips:
(1) use proper anti-static techniques, just in case you might happen to touch the motherboard or a card in the option card backplane.
(2) get (or order online) a replacement power supply with a wattage rating equal to or greater than the wattage rating of power supply being replaced - so you can be sure that the new power supply will handle the load offered by your system.
(3) always keep the power supply module from old PCs - they can come in handy when one dies in a PC that you really want to run (even though the older ones dont have the SATA connectors).

My HP Slimline s3100n pc crashed and will power on

Are you able to enter the BIOS ? If no then it's a major hardware failure, most likely the motherboard. If yes then check that the hard disk is still recognized; if it is then reinstall (or Repair, if you are bold) Windows and try to identify the cause of the crash - start by testing the hard disk using HDTune.

The fan is either burned out, not plugged in correctly, or only runs when the system needs better cooling and is under stress. If you are comfortable with the idea, turn the system off, remove all connections from the rear panel, and remove the side panel of the computer. Locate the fan that is not functional and find the power cable attached to it. Ensure that it is properly connected. If it is, the fan may be burned out. Replacing it is simple, and a replacement can be found at a store such as Best Buy or Office Depot for a low price.
If you are not comfortable with disassembling your computer, you may have to bring the tower to a local computer repair store. The disadvantage to this is that the price will probably be higher.

When i turn the computer

Hi there,
please check if you can see any light or LED display when you press the power button.
If none. Check if the power cable is tight on the back of the computer and check if it's plugged into a power outlet.
You can also try plugging it into a different power outlet just to make sure it's not the Power outlet that has a problem.
You can also try to switch the power cables.
Hope this works, if it doesn't you will have to tear down the parts of the computer to check where the fault is coming from.

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion

If you don't see power indicator turned on or neither listen to CPU fans working, maybe the power supply is failing now, you could claim your warranty again if it's into the valid period, you could also check that all cables of your computer are securely connected.

During my internet surfing or

When downloading or on the Internet I usually turn my power saver off. The hard disc and the screen shuts off at an not so welcome of a time. Although you are still downloading or on the Internet you will be if you are not in the sleep mode. I personally do not any of those modes. I go to the power settings depending on what Operating System you are using. XP you can find this power settings by going and left clicking on the desktop in an open area away from icons then, select screen savor there should be a power option link click this set it to not turn off select never. You can always change this later.
For Win7 go to the control panel select views either large or small icons look for power options, then set them there as well. If this is not the case you may want to consider looking into the power supply unit might be going out on you this can be a sign of power units going out. Hope this assisted you. John
