hopefully you're using XP...easy solution....use the usb cord that came with the camera;plug into camera usb port;plug other end into usb port on pc/laptop;turn camera on..."found new hardware" wizard should pop up asking for cd with driver etc.;tell the wiz you want to choose driver from a list....a list of manufacturers will be on left/models on right...don't look, Moultrie ain't there, but GENERIC is...choose Generic;scroll down right column to find imaging devices;choose...a warning that it" may not be compatible...;ignor and choose...it will work and you'll get a prompt that hardware is ready to use...go to start/my computer/double click on drive id'd as "digital cam drive;MOULTRIE CAM, OR HOWEVER YOUR COMPUTER ID'S IT;a folder will pop up;double click;a sub-folder;double click, ect.,until you see the pics. Just got a moultrie 4.0 camera on an on line
With it in "setup",press, don't hold, the "mode"button, auto mode should be 1st up, handheld 2nd...if left in setup too long, camera will shutoff to save the batteries. If you want to use the camera in handheld mode, don't wait too long after it enters auto. Once auto dly starts countdown, it will want to stay in auto. Should this happen, turn off, back on, let it go thru "if memory card is to be used, internal memory must be erased", then setup, press,DON'T HOLD, mode button once foe AUTO two times for HANDHELD.
Damaged and Corrupted picture
sounds like your computer is not recognizing the proper format the pictures are saved in.My XP doesn't have a problem reading them(.jpeg), but after 8 cards...not the card, which leaves either the camera or computer...I have experienced some image formats not compatible with some computer programs, but have not ran into this problem with these cameras.

Moultrie GameSpy 4.0 states SD Card is locked when
SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.
Flash stopped working
Assuming everything else works ok, the flash is switched on. This looks like a toy, I could be wrong but, if it is a toy, and its helped 007 on many missions, the bulb has probably blown.
Flash issue
Stefan,
Ron here. There are many D40s listed on EBAY with same prob. I have bought a few and presently working on a fix...Moultrie won't support any out of warranty...want you to buy new.

My Moultrie I40 seems to be stuck in set up mode.
what does battery % say? twice this prob was solved by using good brand new bats; might try removing bats with cam on; turn cam off; replace bats and power up. Wait until setup screen is on before pressing mode.
Cannont get SD card to work
what size SD cards? I wanted more pics, so I got some 8gb HCHD cards...don't work...they were Sandisk(best).
make sure your cam is compatible with cards you're using
