Red light is on. It is not blinking, it is solid
if there is no paper in the printer the red light will stay until you put some on it, make sure that when putting paper it goes all the way until the end and the red light will turn green, then you can print.

I had something similar but that's because i opened it and modified it with a chip and i forgot to plug back in the power strip for the motor. I remembered after the message, opened it up again and plugs back in the plug and it start working. What i think is that maybe it had a loose connection so if it's under warranty take it back if not go ahead and open it and check the connections for a loos one.

You need to make sure you have the latest print drivers from Samsung, not just OS drivers. Go to...
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/CLP-315/XAA
Make sure that is your correct model. Choose drivers and download the one for your OS . You probably want the universal driver.
Once that is installed you can go to printers and preferences to look at all your print information. It should also show up in your status bar.
Red light on
which light is red?
there are 4 lights in a row with colours beside them - if it's one of those, that means there is low ink for that colour.
if it's the larger button below it that's red, you might need the printer management software to be running on the computer it's connected to to tell you what's wrong.
Running very hot
I would be concerned about a fire from it. Try a new power cord.
My CLP-315 is flashing red!
A red FLASHING light means there is a minor problem with the unit.
According to the manual there are two options at this point; 1. read the error on the display and solve that problem or 2. The toner is almost empty and needs to be replaced. (you can see which toner is low according to the toner status symbols on the display and just try taking that cartridge out and GENTLY shifting it from side to side a little.) You can tell which toner cartridge it is becasue there will be an arrow in the display above it. Hope this helps.

Need to replace imaging unit
The image drum is located on the front top of the printer. To get to it you push the button along the front top edge. That opens the acess panel and you can see the toner cartridges and behind that is where the.image drum is. So to change it you take out the toner cartridge, then the toner waste cartridge which is along the left side and that will now let you pull out the image drum. When you go to put the new drum in place make sure you have all of the safety tapes off. Then just slide it back in and secure the clips. The toner collector usually lasts about half the life of the image drum so you may want to replace that with a new empty one while everything is out. Then you need to insert the toner carts back in. Getting these in the right place is easy, just match the color of the clips on the cartridge to the label along the left side. Before you put the toners back in hold each one level and then give it a few gentle shakes side to side. This just even out the toner inside and maximizes the life you get out of each. Then insert and clip each one. Now for the hard part. Seriously this is the only annoying bit, and that is getting the stupid panel closed. The clips will be pointing out so you need to close the panel until it latches back in places. You don't want to be too hard as everything is plastic so before you think a hammer might help the trick is just push the panel up to the point where clips are stopping it then put a hand on each side of the panel with your palms touch it about where the clips are. They should be in the middle of the panel not the top. Now just give a quick firm but gentle push and they will move out of the way and the panel will lock into place. Since everything is plastic you don't want to bend or distort them or they won't latch or worse something will break.
These are good little workhorse printers. I have one at home and at work.
