Allen wrenches are sold in sets and not expensive. Moens are not metric so any set of small SAE allen wrenches will contain the right size for your Moen.

if it is a back flow check valve, then it is designed so water from sink, etc will not flow back into water pipes/system. as long as you do not submerge the faucet into the sink or some other standing water, you will be fine.(and even if you did, the odds of an issue is very very small, if at all). what you removed also could be a flow restrictor and if that is what you removed their is no downside except for more water use.

its probably seized on, you should spray wd40 all over it & wiggle it about up & down & side to side till it frees up, or tap it gently with a rubber mallet.

Sounds like your washers on shut off valves are deteriorating causing the black bits etc. Try removing and cleaning the aerator at end of spout, bits will collect here and restrict flow as well. Moen has excellent customer service and lifetime replacement. call them if problem continues.

Moen products are the worst on the market. Remove the trim. Check that both stop valves are fully open. Then get both cartridges and replace them. Moen will warranty them, but you have to wait for delivery.

Remove the aerator from the end of the spout, then turn it on. If you get proper water flow the aerator is clogged, clean it or replace it.

That is very odd that you can not order the Moen part, have you contacted Moen directly? They are usually very good about there parts, if you are checking at your local hardware store you will probably get nowhere. I suggest your local plumbing wholesaler like EMCO, but if you call Moen directly you should be able to get the part.

When the old cartridge was removed part of the old rubber seal must have broken free, I have had it happen numerous times and have found that ( I belive that they are called mechanics picks which I bought at princess auto for about $5) will remove most of the debris. If you are carefull enough and have shut off valves, with the cartridge still removed, turn the water on slowly and it should help flush the rest of the debris out.

They best way to remove the collar is lube it up I have found that WD-40 works very well but have been also told that OFF the bug spray in the Orange can works as well, after it has set for about 20 min then a strap wrench should be used.

Sounds like your hot water shut off is turned off try opening it up and see what happens While you were working on it did you shut the main hot water line off. A person I know called me over because her hot water would not run and then she remembered that she had turned the main line off. She opened it up and away it worked.

YOU MAY HAVE CROSS THREADED WHEN PUTTING IT BACK ON. YOU MAY HAVE PINCHED AN O RING WHEN PUTTING BACK ON THE O RING MAY HAVE A VERY SMALL SLIT PREVENTING IT FROM SEALING. I HAVE A PURR WATER FILTER ON MY FAUCET & IT LEAKS JUST A BIT BUT THINK IT'S FROM OLD AGE HAVE HAD IT FOR 5 YEARS & THERE IS A VERY SMALL CRACK IN IT. IF YOUR'S IS NOT NEW YOU MAY HAVE THE SAME THING THERE MAY BE A SMALL CRACK IN THE HOUSEING SOME PLACE.
