I just installed a Schlage deadbolt. If I lock it from the outside (using the key) it locks fine, but I can't remove the key without unlocking it. Now What?

Hi Winston: Is it possible to try this: - pull the lock from the door while leaving the deadbolt in place - turn the mechanism 180 degrees. - re-install and give it a try. Let me know how you progress.

Keypads on Schlage locks

Answer from Schlage. Thank you for your e-mail. Unfortunately if he had these locks on his business there is nothing we can do as far as repair. And unfortunately there are no dealers who have the parts available for repair. These are strictly residential keypads. I am sorry about this. Broke wire connector

First thing you will want to do is check the warranty for your lockset. If they will cover the lock under some part of the warranty then do that, if not. You could try getting a butt splice gauged for the wire and try splicing it together like that but there is no guarantee that it will work. Most electronic locksets have very sensitive wiring in them and even the smallest pinch on the wire can ruin the lockset. Try cutting out the parts that were broken off and splicing them together.

This is the first place I urge you to look for information on your lock:

http://consumer.schlage.com/Service-Support/Pages/InstructionandManuals.aspx

On this page you will find links to installation instructions and videos for the various models of Schlage locksets.

I f you are not able to resolve your problem from there, then I recommend that you contact their Customer Service (under the Service and Support link) also found on that page.

There's always a good chance that you can press them to cover repair parts or replacement of your lock, even if it is out of warranty.

Good luck!

How to change and delete

Without knowing the model #, I'll suggest this page for starters:

I understand that there if you disassemble the lock, there should be a sticker affixed on the inside with the lock code.

Schlage lock freezes in cold

Hi,
You have water in the lock and need to dry it out... the best way would be to give a squirt or two of carburetor cleaner in the lock to displace the water and dry it out...the carb cleaner is most alcohol so it will dry the lock and act as an antifreeze also...

Need to know how to

It depends a bit on the lock and how it was installed.

For the Home locks with a panel on the interior of the door, remove two screws and take off the inside cover. These screws can be at the top and bottom or through the plate of the interior door handle. Then remove the 9V battery and install a new one. Put the cover back on and replace the handle, if needed, and the screws. (Do not use a cordless screwdiver - you could overtighten and strip the threads.)

Other installations have the battery inside the panel with the keypad on the exterior of the door. To access the battery compartment, you need to remove the interior door handle or lock. Then pull the keypad section out of the door. The 9V battery will be behind a coverplate on the back of the unit. This cover needs to be pivoted downwards to open the compartment.

The Schlage commercial offline locks (no computer monitoring) use AA alkaline batteries (4 or 8) in a block. The eight battery version has 4 batteries on each side of the block. These are all on the inside of the door. Remove one screw to get the cover off. Then remove two screws to get the battery holder off (this keeps the batteries from coming loose in the block). Replace all of the batteries and resecure both the battery holder and the cover panel.

For the consumer Schlage Locks manuals, see http://consumer.schlage.com/Service-Support/Pages/InstructionandManuals.aspx . For information on the Schlage commercial locks. see http://commercial.schlage.com/electronicsecurity.asp . The manuals are available in the Technical Library for each lock type.

I hope this helps.
