Is there a special tool for removing commercial locksets?

The spanner tool that Schlage includes with many of their new locks will work on the old ones. Search Google images for "schlage spanner wrench" and you'll see different styles, but they all can be made to work. You remove the inside knob (or lever handle, but let's say it's a knob) by sticking the pin end (or a straightened out large paperclip) into the hole in the knob towards the edge of the door and press in the springy retainer. While pressing in the retainer, pull the knob away from the door. If the pin is all the way in, the knob won't move away more than about 3/32", so after it starts moving, remove the pin and the knob should come off the rest of the way. If the inside knob has a keyhole, then you need to turn the key about 90 degrees, or as far as it will go, before the retainer will move. If you don't have a key, then pick it, or drill the pins so it will turn. If you don't care what happens to the old lock because you are going to replace it, you can cut off the inner knob with a hacksaw. Cut as close to the rose as possible. Once you have the knob off, use the spanner to remove the inside rose trim, and then pull the lock out of the door from the outside.

I have a schlage dead bolt around 10years old and have difficulty putting the key in to lock or unloack

Things to try: 1. Lubricate the lock. If you think the lock is clean (not exposed to dust, rust, rain, or anything else except keys in the keyhole) then lubricate it with powdered graphite, available from most hardware stores and locksmiths. If it isn't clean, then try a shot of a lubricant that can clean it out. The cheapest is WD-40, but there are many people willing to sell you more expensive products that do the same thing that they will claim to have extra benefits. Spray it into the keyhole with a bunch of paper towels or a rag underneath to catch the stuff that comes out until it runs out clear. Try the key, and if it works, great! If not, then move on to the next step: 2. Check your key. Have you used the same key every day for 10 years? Is it worn? Is it bent or twisted? Do you have another copy that works better? If this is the only key with problems, then stop using it. Get copies made from the one that works the best, and discard the bad ones. Ideally, when you get a new lock (or car) you should make copies to use, and save the originals where you can find them again so you can make fresh copies in the future. (For a new car, copies of the electronic keys may seem expensive, but it sure beats the cost of having a locksmith fit a key to your car after you've lost both originals.) 3. If none of the above worked, your lock is probably worn. You can take the lock to a locksmith and have the pin tumblers inside replaced, or set up to work with a factory new key, but that won't replace other worn parts in the lock. You probably replaced your worn out cell phone more than twice in the last ten years, and all you did to that was press buttons on it, not stick a piece of metal in and out of it daily, slam it again and again, and expect it to protect your property and the lives of yourself and your loved ones. (Maybe you should not only replace it with the same kind, but a stronger one!)

We recently had a new door installed. It had a schlage lock. Can we program our other Schlage door locks so that one key fits all door? The locks are standard, not keypad.

Any locksmith can do it,BUT- if you go to hardware store you can find locks that have a number on the front of the box that says something like 'TypeA, or Type B' If you purchase the same lock type with the same number or letter, they will all use the same keys included. It's much cheaper than a locksmith.

Schlage model be365 working backwards I need to put code in for locking but to unlock only have to press Schlage button, please help

The timing is off. Remove the lock again. Pull out the directions where it told you to install with timing mark set just so...and move things to that position and reinstall lock. Not a big problem to have and it should only take a minute to correct. Have fun!

I cannot open my outside door. It's a Schlage lock and with both doorknobs off the lock will not allow me to turn the square piece when all locks are off

Your door likely got slammed and the dead latch function of that latch is really tight. Can you wiggle the door at all? If not...put the lock back on so you have something to turn on and push the door as if you were closing is (use your shoulder or a buddy if you have to) and give the lock a twist while applying this force to free up the latch. This is not uncommon when a lock is set to function properly with the dead latch NOT going into the hole of the latch plate but is forced there by a gust of wind slamming the door! Let us know if it helps you.

Schlage lv 9077 when locked from outside will not open from both sides

That lock is built with the option to set it up for different functions. It sounds like you have it set up for classroom security or the vestibule function. You may be able to change it to another function but it will need to be removed from the door. If your lock body can be changed for function the directions to do so should be on the side of the body...or found in the instructions that came with the lock.

Our schlage lock with thumbturn on inside and keyed on outside. inside lock position AND outside keyhole are sideways. is this normal??

I've never seen a lock like that was intended to be that way, but have made that mistake when the shaft that goes through the bolt portion of the deadbolt is square and is 90 degrees off in the square hole it goes through. If so remove two screws on the inside and take out assembly with the key hole, position key hole bottom, then put key side assembly with shaft through bolt portion of lock. Test the key to see if it locks and unlocks, maybe you need to position shaft 90 degrees to left or right to work, then put cover on inside house and the two screws.

I just installed a Schlage deadbolt. If I lock it from the outside (using the key) it locks fine, but I can't remove the key without unlocking it. Now What?

Hi Winston: Is it possible to try this: - pull the lock from the door while leaving the deadbolt in place - turn the mechanism 180 degrees. - re-install and give it a try. Let me know how you progress.

I am not the original owner. Where can I locate the program code without the box.

It is part of the front part. (Wow, this is hard to explain in words). It is the lock part on the outside of the door, the part with the number buttons.

Keypads on Schlage locks

Answer from Schlage. Thank you for your e-mail. Unfortunately if he had these locks on his business there is nothing we can do as far as repair. And unfortunately there are no dealers who have the parts available for repair. These are strictly residential keypads. I am sorry about this. Broke wire connector

First thing you will want to do is check the warranty for your lockset. If they will cover the lock under some part of the warranty then do that, if not. You could try getting a butt splice gauged for the wire and try splicing it together like that but there is no guarantee that it will work. Most electronic locksets have very sensitive wiring in them and even the smallest pinch on the wire can ruin the lockset. Try cutting out the parts that were broken off and splicing them together.
