I purchased a lock system

to take the lock to bits to get it off an old door you have to take the handle off the ''1000'' so people dont usually put it back on properly giving the appearance that its broken to fix it back on when the collar is tighened you should see a small hole push a dart or something pointed into it whilst pushing on the handle knob then slowly pull out the dart or point whilst at the same time applying pressure to push the handle on it should click and go about quarter of an inch further then itll be secure

Does the lock open even though the first entry doesn't click?
Have you tried another lockset to see if you get the same result?
Did you try a different combo?
Did you try a 4, 2, or 1 button combination?
Naturally, if this information doesn't help, do not accept this answer so you don't have to pay.

if your think the deadlatch has slipped into the strike plate ( which is a very common problem ) -- when you press in the code on the lock - push or pull the door ( depending on in-swing or out-swing ) and try and relieve the pressure on the strike. as soon as the door is open adjust the strike so this does not happen again. if there is no room for strike adjustment you can get and install small door bumpers on the door jam to keep the latch from going to far.

How to change entry code

First, remove the control cylinder with your "DF59" control key. The cylinder unscrews to remove. Next, turn the knob all the way to the right, and release it.
Step three: Enter the existing code
Step four: Using either the spanner wrench that came with the lock, or a medium-sized flat-tip screwdriver, reach into the hole the control cylinder came out of; and turn the cam inside, about 1/4 turn (as far as it will go), and then back.
Step five: Turn the knob as far as it goes, ONLY ONCE, then release it.
Step six: Enter your new code.
Step seven: Turn the knob (this time, it should retract the latch).

Test it by turning the knob again: The latch should not retract. Now enter your new code and it should retract the latch as you turn the knob. If so, you have successfully changed the code.

How do I change the combination on my Unican 1000

The door must be open.
On models with the passage feature, make sure the passage feature is disengaged: turn knob or key should be in vertical position (A) (see figure 1).
1. Insert the DF-59 control key (B) into the combination change plug
assembly (
C) and unscrew the cylinder by turning the key
c
ounterclockwise. Remove the combination change plug to gain access to the combination change sleeve (see figure 1).
2. Turn the outside knob/lever once clockwise (all the way, until it stops) then release. The latch should not retract (see figure 4).
3. Enter the existing combination. On new installations, use the factory- set combination: depress 2 and 4 simultaneously, (release), then 3
(r
elease). You should feel a slight click as each button is depressed.
4. Insert the spanner wrench as shown in figure 2 to engage the combina- tion change sleeve (A). Gently turn the spanner wrench clockwise to the stop position (a slight click should be felt), then turn the spanner wrench counter-clockwise to the stop position (A) (see figure 3). Remove the spanner wrench.
5. Turn the outside knob/lever once clockwise all the way until it stops, then release. The latch should not retract (see figure 4).
6. Choose your new combination, write it down, then enter the new combination-depress buttons carefully (a slight click should be felt as each button is depressed).
Note: You can use one button or all five for a combination, but each button can only be used once. You can depress two or more buttons simultaneously as a step in the combination.
7. Turn the outside knob/lever clockwise once, all the way, until it stops, hold in position and make sure the latch is retracted (see figure 5).
R
elease the knob/lever.
Note: If your lock is opening on every turn of the knob or lever, except upon entering a code, this may be a ZERO CODE. Before attempting to remove the lock from the door, refer to the troubleshooting procedures outlined at bottom of this document for a zero code symptom/solution.

I have a 1000 series,

More information needed to diagnose the problem.
Assuming you have the correct combination have you checked to make sure the buttons are depressing fully when you enter the combination?
If you do not feel each button 'click' as it is pressed first try turning the know to clear any improper button presses.
If you still do not get the click for the button presses the lock is not being cleared when the knob is turned.
This is a problem I have seen on older series 1000 locks.
Inside the clutch assembly there are two small round pins on the top and two more on the bottom side of the plate.
If the pins come out the lock will no longer clear improper button pushes.
I have used small screws to replace the pins and it works great but you need screws that are the same head shape and size as the old pins.

If you are not familiar with the internal workings of these locks it is very easy to get the parts apart but if you do not put them back in the correct way it will look correct but not work.
