The voltage regulator may be bad, will need to unplug magneto and use multi meter and test magneto for voltage output on milliamp scale with the engine cranking, If voltage is present when cranking then the voltage regulator is bad , if no voltage then the pick-up coil and stator will need to be replaced.

Check the flywheel keyway, they will shear and cause the problem you are encountering.

Pull the spark plugs out and check their color - as this will tell you if the engine is flooding out or you have an ignition system failure. If they are black check to make sure the choke is opening up and staying open. If the ceramic is light and not brown then the ignition system is failing.

Carb. problem. rebuild or buy a new one

V-Twin... | Answered on Aug 12, 2015

What ussually causes white smoke to come out the exhaust is oil being sucked up in carb. Typical causes are too much oil in crank case or PVC valve. Or really bad piston rings

How many miles are on it?
It could be worn out rings, valve guides and seals, cylinder could be worn out of specs, etc.. Either way, too much oil is entering the combustion chamber.

rebuild or replace the carb- it isn't working properly. You may just need to clean it good as there may be a partial blockage.

It goes to the motor and grounds the ignition that gives it power. looks like yours has just came loose for some reason.

This can happen if there was fuel left in the carburettor for a few months. The fuel forms a gel in the jets which can block the fuel getting through. You could try the following procedure which might help get it going.

  • Remove the sparkplug.
  • Pour about 5ml (or 1 teaspoonful) of fuel into the opening, where the sparkplug came out of.
  • Dip the end of the spark plug in fuel so the spark gap gets wet and replace the plug and HT lead.
Try to start the generator. The fuel that you poured in should ignite. This might be enough to get the engine running. You may have to repeat the procedure 2 to 3 times. Don't be tempted to pour too much fuel in as it will cause the engine to flood.

If the jets are blocked in the carburettor this might be enough to **** the fuel through but if not you'll need to get a mechanic to strip down the carburettor and clean the jets.
