care: well that's slightly different for a gas model vs an electric model
gas models should not be stored for longer than a week with fuel in it's system (tank,lines,carb) as the gas will evaporate and cause deposits to form (hard) and clogg up the small ports in there
electric models, should be inspected for cuts to cord and general safety ck over saw to make sure it's not going to shock you
just because they show it on tv , chain saws are not for cutting in water or around water , one its not good for the metals the saw is made from and two if water gets inside the motor (gas or electric) its no longer going to run anymore
always keep your chain oiler full of bar oil (not motor oil) and top off every 30 min of use
and sharp chains cut cooler and longer than dull chains , lot less effort too

The Chain being loose can be caused by not having enough tension on it. The owners manual will explain how to put the tension on your chain and properly maintain them.
