Troy Bilt 5.5hp Self Propelled Mower - Page 4 Questions & Answers
How does the govener and carb linkage work on a Troy-Bilt 2005 800 Series (839) self propelled mower
Have you changed springs? Likely the correct components are there unless you have changed it. Does it run properly and at correct rpm when not in tall grass? Check for proper throttle adjustment first. also check for obstructions (packed grass for instance) under the deck that could be impeding the blade. Lastly, if you have the discharge blocked with a mulch plug, remove the plug. let the tall grass discharge. then run over it again and mulch it.
Replaced fuel line ,rebuilt carb replaced spark plug
Is there gas in the tank? Sorry, but sometimes simple things escape us.
Also... is your fuel old? Does it maybe have a lot of water in it? Before you do anything else, try again with a full tank of fresh gasoline. THEN try the rest of this if it still won't stay running.
The problem you describe is VERY indicative of a fuel problem - no fuel getting to the carburetor, or not enough fuel getting into the cylinder from the carburetor. Try pulling the fuel line off the carburetor to see if fuel comes out quickly. If not, there's an obstruction in your tank.
If plenty of fuel comes out quickly, then the problem is in that rebuilt carburetor; sometimes a rebuilt one comes back misadjusted or incorrectly reassembled.

Hello. Your carburator is partially clogged up. That said, if you havn't installed a new fuel filter and new air filter this year do so. Also put in a new plug if u havn't lately. Finally get a bottle of a fuel additive called seafoam and pour it into the fuel following the directions on the bottle. J.
I bought a brand new Troy-bilt lawn mower model
Are you holding the emergency stop lever? If you were operating the mower with your hands on the handle, there is a separate lever that you are expected to hold together with the main handle. You have to hold these two handles together to start and to operate the mower.
Good luck.
What would cause my Troy Built Pony to suddenly stop
That sounds perfect. When the motor turns over, ten thousand (approximately) volts push a whole lot of electrons out to the end of that wire. If they don't have someplace better to go (through the spark plug, across the gap, and to a good ground), they just jump out anywhere they can (into your hand), and dash through you to ground (wherever else you're touching the machine.
The spark plug body (the big metal end) MUST MUST be touching the frame or the engine, or it won't spark - those electrons have noplace to go.
Did you get the right plug? Is it a good plug? Is it gapped correctly? If all true, and if the machine STILL won't start, then the problem doesn't appear to be an ignition problem.
The blade belts keep coming off
check for ether bent pulley or split pulleybent or twisted deck or broken lawn mower frame around one of the welds or bad spindle bearing
