That pump section is not the problem, the issue is motor fan

These Intex system's are not the highest quality in the world, and 3 years is a while for them to sit. If it was locked up, you should still be able to hear or feel the pump trying to do something so I would imagine you have a lose or corroded wire/connection. If you're decently handy you can eyeball check some of it, but no Internet answer can break down the whole thing
Intex does not appear to sell a replacement for the pump/motor itself, just all of the other parts, so it looks like you'd be stuck replacing the whole thing.

The filter needs to be cleaned. the cartridge should be removed from the housing and sprayed on the o with a hose and sprayer. A strong, concentrated jet of water works best. I hope this helps.

Water should not be draining from your pool filter at all. There should be one hose that connects to from the filter to the pool and another hose that returns the filtered water from the filter to the pool. It is a continuous loop. If water is coming out of your pool during this process, either you don't have a hose connected properly or the hose is leaking/cracked.

First, Yes you need to turn off the pump when switching from filter to backwash. And Yes again get a heavy guage cord so you don't burn out the windings in the motor. The thermal will usually stop the motor from catching fire after the damage is done.
Now your problem; Water can be put under pressure but you can't compress it. Air on the other hand you can compress. If you had any air in the tank and didn't get it out while switching from filter to backwash. When you shut the pump off that air will expand at a rapid rate and rush back through the sustem. This will cause the impellor to spin off the shaft inside the pump and bind up. If you take the pump apart and look this could be your problem.More often than not your threads on the impellor will be runed so yopu probally need a new one and a new seal but cheaper than a new motor. If you take it to a pool store they can do this for you for a small charge or just the price of parts. While you have it there have them check to see if you can get a left hand thread impellor screw to lock the impellor on so this won't happen again. Most motor shafts are already drilled and tapped for this. The left hand thread can't spin off and will keep the impellor in place. Also be careful not to **** air when draining water from pool.Good luck.

THIS HAS PRESSURE ON THE PUMP WHEN IT IS HOOKED UP TO THE POOL , NO PRIMING IS NEEDED. NOW IF IT'S HIGHER THAN THE WATER LINE OF THE POOL THIS KIND OF PUMP WILL NOT WORK , YOU NEED A PUMP THAT HAS A HAIR BASKET . THESE YOU FILL THE BASKET UP AND REPLACE THE LID AND YOU PRIMED IT.. . IF'N I WAS ANY HELP VOTE FOR ME ...THANKS.. JAY

Direction of flow is FROM the skimmer to the pump and back to the jet. Its easy enough to determine which hose is the "jet" hose and which is the suction hose. Put both into the water, or in a bucket and turn on the pump, find the one that is shooting out water, that's the jet hose. On these systems, filter replacement and cleaning is annoyingly frequent if you want it to work even remotely efficient.

Sounds like the bearings are worn. If they are you will soon need a new pump.

Okay. I think I gotcha covered.

I have one mocked up here right in front of me.

Still going on the PVC pipe assumption...

- Install a PVC 1 1/2 " - 1" reducer on the new pump nipple.

- Install a short piece (nipple) of 1 1/2" PVC pipe in the reducer installed on the pump

- Install an 1 1/2" MIP adapter (PVC) on the 1 1/2 " nipple

- Screw the hose onto the threaded 1 1/2" MIP adapter.

There are several ways to do this -- the above is a good way.

Have you ever mated PVC piping/adapters with solvent? I can help you with the details of this if your unfamiliar with it...
