Hayward 1HP Super Pump II Inground Pool Pump Questions & Answers
Hayward Super ll Pump - shaft spins opposite
The only way a motor for these units can run backwards is if the internal lead connections of the winding are reversed. On some rare occasions I have seen a failed start cap cause a motor to start in reverse but turning it off and on would fix that. If your start cap checks out OK and the motor is truly running 'backwards' you will need to replace it.
If on the other hand the flow is not going the correct way look into the valves and filter(s) for issues.

99.9999% OF THE TIME its the bearings going bad, and need t be replaced asap.due to a bad shaft seal... search your area for your local pool pump motor repair guy with free testing. should be around $75 to repair it if caught in time.. here in florida lizards, frogs, grass and snakes and the such get into the motor and you can get that grinding sound but it will soon fade, but can restrict airflow and make your motor run hot and fail prematurely.. so if the noise doesn't fade in say a hour or two.. have it checked .. here is how to

Can you be more descriptive? My guesses are that the motor is wired wrong, the motor is defective, There is a leak in the supply line or the pump and air is getting into the pump, causing the pump to cavitate.
Leak between seal plate and pump/strainer housing
The pump seal is leaking and needs replacing and requires removing four 3/8 bolts (9/16) wrench and removing the motor then the diffuser to get to the impeller and seal . A 7/16 wrench holds the rear motor shaft behind the springs and impeller spins off to reveal the seal which has two parts one on the impeller with a spring and one in the seal plate is white ceramic/ porcelan whatever they use. Part number is an SPX1600KA on super pumps and 1500KA wassome above grounds. When replacing do not touch the mating white and black surfaces with your fingers.

There may debris that has passed by the strainer basket and jammed the pump. I've personally got the world's worse pool... it's right next to a deadora tree with small pine type needles...they always get by the strainer basket and sometimes lodge in the pump.
To remedy the this, I take the protective cap off the exposed end of the motor and turn the shaft back and forth with a crescent wrench.
This frees the shaft up, then turn the switch on. You may need to do this a few times.
Also, with the pump off, remove the strainer and reach into the intake and see if anything is lodged in the opening... feel around with your finger to see if you can feel any debris.
If this doesn't solve it, you'll need to unbolt the motor with the pump impeller free from the basket housing. Once free clean the intake and surrounding area of all debris.
Being careful with the o-rings, reinstall. that should get you up and running...
let me know how it goes...

If the pump motor runs continously it probibly is a suction side air leak, check all "O" rings, gaskets and fittings, it could also be a restricted suction screen or filter basket as well, Need more info to get more specific.

New XtremepowerUS 2HP In-Ground Swimming Pool Pump Variable Speed 2 Inlet 230V High Flo w/ Slip-On Fitting, i turned it on after 2 mins switch from high to low then shut off and get very hot.
All electric motors run hot and pool pumps are no different. But how hot is too hot for a pool pump? The first test is simply whether you can touch the motor or not. Under normal operating conditions, the motor end of the pump is hot enough that you can barely touch it - but not searing hot.Best to you.https://www.google.com/search?q=XtremepowerUS+2HP+In-Ground+Swimming+Pool+Pump+Variable+Speed+running+temp&newwindow=1&sxsrf=AB5stBhpriuNhnfXLYYTg7tuS-LWwW262g%3A1690815381903&source=hp&ei=lcvHZKH_NOHi9AOquJjADw&iflsig=AD69kcEAAAAAZMfZpVdAAi94QXZiwKfN3nArsWv-Gm1z&ved=0ahUKEwjhnd6RmrmAAxVhMX0KHSocBvgQ4dUDCAo&uact=5&oq=XtremepowerUS+2HP+In-Ground+Swimming+Pool+Pump+Variable+Speed+running+temp&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6IkpYdHJlbWVwb3dlclVTIDJIUCBJbi1Hcm91bmQgU3dpbW1pbmcgUG9vbCBQdW1wIFZhcmlhYmxlIFNwZWVkIHJ1bm5pbmcgdGVtcEgAUABYAHAAeACQAQCYAQCgAQCqAQC4AQPIAQD4AQL4AQE&sclient=gws-wiz#kpvalbx=_sMvHZMuPJPez0PEP3M2LgAY_44
