Teledyne Laars Laars Lite 2 Pool Heater 125,000 Btu / Propane Gas - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have a Laars Lite
see if 24 volts ac to the brown and yellow of the gas valve if voltage need new gas valve if no voltage need new fenwal
Laars pilot not glowing
remove wires to ignitor see if voltage to them if so bad ignitor if no voltage check safety circuit
Convert Laars lite model lg125n to LP gas
That involves changing out the complete burner tray including the igniter/pilot assembly, burners and the gas valve. It runs deep into the cost of a new heater, (well over $1000, not installed).
Pool heater
If you have bubbles, you have a suction leak. That means the pump is pulling air into the system. Sometimes it's just the basket o-ring under the pump lid needs replacing. If the pump has run hot (without water) for a while, it may have caused shrinkage at the inlet to the pump. Unless it is underground, suction leaks are fairly easy and inexpensive to fix. Heaters will not work properly with air in the system.
I have a Teledyne Laars XE and it came with the house I just moved into. It's at least 15 years old and whenever I try to heat up my spa (it's natural gas), it won't get above 80 degrees,
It sounds like its either the temperature sensor (thermistor) or the control board. If you remove the control panel you will see two gray wires that plug in the back next to each other.unplug the wires and use a multimeter to check the resistance (ohms). At 80 degrees the reading should be about 9 thousand ohms (9K ohms); at 75, 10.5K ohms; at 70, about 12K ohms. Otherwise the thermistor needs replacing. About $70 Not too hard to DIY but you will have to take some panels off to get to itIf your readings were pretty close, it is probably the control board having trouble, but be warned they are not cheap, about $350. Tell you pool store what you are doing and some will loan you a good board to plug in just to verify whether or not that was the problem. Who ever you buy from, make sure they have a return policy. Some companies will not accept return on heater parts that have been removed from the original packaging.
Laars Lite 2 LG - pilot light will not stay lit.
It sounds like a thermocouple has gone bad. this is a very common problem with gas powered things ie; water heaters, furnaces, hot tubs. The telltale sign is when you release the pilot light button it won't stay lit. This is a safety feature and is relatively inexpensive and easy to repair.
I have a laars 125
I wish I could tell you a part number and a supplier but I can only recommend contacting your propane company or a licensed LP Gas plumber. Either one will need to know pool heater information. I hope this helps.
Water turned green was blue
First thing you need to do is check the pH of the water. If the pH got too low, below 7.0, this could be caused by copper from the heat exchanger in the heater. If the pH is ok, this could be nothing more than an algae bloom because the pool ran out of chlorine. Not quite enough information to answer your question.
We bought a house last
We come across these from time to time and we were told that when the part is installed at the factory it is by machine...sometimes they end up so tight that removing them strips the threads. In the past we take a pipe tap out and re-thread the hole and then the new drain plugs will fit fine. It is a 1/4" MPT (often referred to as NPT on taps) pipe tap (tapered). You may find a local pool or pump service company or maybe a plumber that will lend it or make the service call to do it for a reasonable price.

My heater would lite but
Did they clarify why they want to replace the gas valve? If one of the terminals all the wires connects to is broken then yes, it could behave as you describe. The test is whether it fires with a closed safety circuit and less than 2 ohms resistance thru that closed circuit or if it hangs up. Another question would be what the generator output is...is it above 400mV? Before you proceed with a new valve I would ask:
1) Was the safety circuit closing and reading less than two ohms across it?
2) What was the pilot generator output at in millivolts?
3) Why exactly is a new valve needed?
(acceptable answers include broken valve terminals, dropping too much voltage without
opening, bad solenoid valve, won't fire when jumped)
4) Do they warranty their work - be careful here; manufacturers do not warranty parts so do not
accept that it is covered by the manufacturer.
5) If they are wrong and the new valve does not fix the unit, what is there procuder for follow up
visits or parts? Will they put the original valve back at no charge?
