Does the ionic breeze blow air
They only move the air slightly. They are not like a conventional fan.They do not rotate. They do work effectively for mold spores and dust. If yours has not been cleaned in a while remove the front element from above and spray the stainless bars down with an acidic claener like "Formula 409" and wipe them down after rinsing. On the unit itself unplug it and remove the front and rear grill br pressing a small tab at the bottom of the grille and push upwars. Be careful with front grille as there is an ionizing wire there towards the inside of the unit. If the unit has come from someone else, with an emery board and gentle pressure just make one pass witht he wire gently between board and your finger. drawing towards the spring loaded end. Do the same to the two wires inside the unit housing if present, Witht he rear grille removed, remove the bulb and wipe it down with a cleaner if needed- it should be clear. as it is a UV bulb.Dust out hte base area with a small paintbrush and remove as much dust as you can from it. If need be a slighly damp rag cna also be used. With the front of the Ionic breeze unit facing you, there are 2 conductive rubber strips that also need to be wiped down with a lsightly damp rag. They should be removing some black dust. Also wipe down the inside of the front being mindful of the two stainless wires. Let unit dry off and reassemble.With left knob turned to left- no light should appear. Turn knob to the right and the UV tube should light and the Boost button should light up blue when pressed once- and green when pressed a second time and then off if pressed a third time. It will only light when the left knob is turned to right. The right knob adjusts "Low," "Medium" and "High" intensity of the high voltage applied to elements.Alow unit to dry before powering it on.A working system should raise the hairs on the back of you hand or give you some other sensation of moving air
How does an ionic breeze work
It will attract dust, and collect it, but in order for an air filtering system to work, air has to pass through it. The Ionic Breeze has no fan system to move air, so it relies on normal room air currents to push air through it.
Won't turn on
Might be a fuse BUT it is enclosed in the unit. You would have to take it apart to see. IT could also be other parts in the power supply that have failed, With that in mind, if you do take it apart, take pictures so that you can put it back together.
Red light is on
compressed air is the best way to clean one, or a weed blower works also but not as good as air from a air compressor .oh do it outside never inside it's going to make a big dust cloud !. jay the pool pump guy in fl
Won't turn on when button is pushed. It was
1. Unplug
2. Turn the machine upside down (there are 4 screws holding the bottom stand on) remove the screws
3. once bottom is off there are 2 screws sideways helping the hold the 2 sides together. Remove those 2 screws.
4. Turn the machine uprgiht and remove the middle fins (the ones you clean)
5. Remove the 4 screws that are deep in the 4 holes when you look down inside (you can't see the screws, I had to feel for them with a phillips head narrow screwdriver)
(it will be easier if your screwdriver has magnetic head for next step.)
6. after removing the 4 screws gently work lose the top (part that has the little lights and turn on push switch)
7. turn the breeze on its side, you will find about 5 or 6 tiny screws holding the two sides of the outside louver case together. Remove all these screws. You will be thankful for the magnetic end, I have small fingers and still had a problem catching the little screws.
8. You want to take off the screws from both sides but only remove one side.
9. Being careful of the wires (I left that side alone) I worked from the wire free side and using a bottle of rubbing alcohal and lots and lots of q-tips I gentle cleaned off all the gunk on all the little metal pieces at the bottom of the breeze (on the inside where the wires are). Clean as good as you can, you will find the metal pieces covered with what looks like tar but it comes off with the alcohal.
10. Using a can of 'canned air' like you'd use for a computer, gently blow the rest of the breeze parts getting all the dust away but being careful not to damage the electronics. (there are a lot of little computer boards). I didn't find any dust in the electrical parts in the very bottom of the breeze, just above where the fins are and some at the top where the controls are.
11. I cleaned the 1/2 I took completely off with some rubbing alcohal, gets that **** off pretty good but didn't mess with the side with the wires, just blew the dust out, gently cleaned a bit and on the outside.
12. To put back together, first I gently put the outer middle pieces together and then gently put the control top back on and replaced those 4 screws. Then I put the 10 or 12 tiny screws back into the middle, then the 2 screws in the bottom sides and 4 screws putting the stand back on. I stood it up, plugged it in (make sure its dry) and turned it on and the light came on and it is working great.
I've had mine for 3 years so I think they occasionally need a thorough cleaning. Except for the canned air I bought nothing else. Everyone has rubbing alcohal and q-tips in their homes. When I first started I didn't know how to dismantle it and tried to clean the inside with long q-tips but it was too hard. Those little metal pieces in the bottom make some sort of connection to the fins we pull out and clean so I guess they need good contact.

When you turn it on
You can try to get it to reset itself by doing the following:
Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF. Unplug the unit and leave unplugged for 12 - 15 minutes. Then plug the unit back in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the controls as you normally do. Hopefully, the 12 - 15 minute timeout, allowed the unit to reset itself.
Generally, this works 90% of the time. I hope it works for you.
My Ionic Breeze Model S1637
Test the outlet that it's plugged into, to make sure it's still functioning properly. There may be a loose connection at the receptacle or the circuit breaker in your home's circuit breaker panel, for that receptacle may have been tripped. If it is, before resetting it, make sure the air purifier is not plugged in to it. Then plug the unit in and turn it ON. If the circuit breaker trips again, there's a wiring short in the air purifier. Contact Sharper Image for possible repair or replacement.
My ionic breeze is making a hissing noise. When I
It probably needs to be cleaned. They will sometimes make a hissing noise when the elements get really clogged with dirt. The reason is quits when you turn it upside down is because it is supposed to. There is a safety switch that turns the power off in the event the unit gets knocked over.

If there is a recall for the Ionic Breeze you need to call your local Sharper Image and ask them what you need to do to have fixed. They are the maker of the product and will help you fix it or have it replaced.
