That "Static" noise you hear is where somewhere the unit is "Arcing" what you need to do is strip it down, take it into a darkened room and turn it on, now look for the Purple Sparks, when located turn the unit off, wait a bit, and separate the two, or more, points that the arc is going between. sometimes it can be a "Sharp" edge that will cause it, smooth this down if the case.. the High voltage of an ioniser is "Arcing" between some points that are a wee bit too close together.. Sometimes as you alluded to dust etc, can also cause this to happen, especially inside in the internal electronics, so make sure this is clean too. use a brush and vacuum if required.
Be careful, the can give a nasty, but generally NOT fatal, shock...

Please give me a bit more information here. When you say it doesn't work... does the unit power on but just not blow the air like it should? Do you get lights on the unit, or no lights at all?

How old is this unit as well?

The filter is arching. Try first cleaning the filter, dust may cause arching. If that does not help, then parts had been damaged by arching. Usually the filter and more parts must be replaced.

Check if the power cord if fused, in case replace the fuse in power cord.

If there is no fuse, then the problem is a broken contact, caused probably by a damaged ozone barrier arching.

About your Ionic breeze purifier, I wanted to report that they are not being manufactured anymore because of heath concerns. New model built from 2008 use a completely different technology. Parts are also not distributed anymore, and the new Sharper Image does not provide any support for the old model.
I suggest replacing the ionic purifier with a different air purifier.

Note:On this particular problem: It is caused by arching, that was a factory defect. It is repaired replacing the plate. Since this is an old model, I suggest not repairing the unit.

You still had water in it and the hissing you heard was the water cooking. If it has a fuse, check it. If it doesn't, you probably burned out the control board.

Parts for this unit, including the filter are not on sale anymore, as all Ionic Breeze models had been retired from commerce because of health and safety concerns.

No company will manufacture or distribute parts for this kind of Air Purifier. The units had been retired from commerce.

Sharper Image had been closed down because of the concerns linked to ionic breezer purifier.

Spare parts are not manufactured or distributed anymore.

My Quandra Ionic Breeze will not come on. I have cleaned it, but still nothing. I have had it for many years.

I believe that a blue blinking light indicates that the stainless steel collection blades need to be wiped clean. The unit uses these blades instead of a replaceable filter. Simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth and you should be ready to go!
