No, you just need to replace the wire with a like type (usually tungsten over steel) and apologise to the power supply as necessary (replace suspicious-looking VOMs, caps, etc.) Bent plates are the filter-killers.

have you cleaned the connections where the filter connects . There is prob dust and dirt down inside the filter , keeping it from making a good connection. The zapping sound is from the electricty jumping the gap. A good cleaning of the inside should help. Try attaching a small hose to your vac to fit down inside the unit. give the electrical connections a good cleaning . If that dosen't work take unit apart and wipe down with alchol that you can buy at any drugstore

Put filter in bathtub, or sink if it'll fit, and swish it in the moderately hot soapy water, use can use dish soap. Then rinse off with moderately hot water but not scalding, then tamp it off onto a towel to get as much water off of it as you can. Your supposed to then let it dry for a while before reuse.

My pure ion air purifier will not turn on...tried
Hi, I am sure you have done this, but be sure you have power to it. I have to ask this first as you know. This does sound like it could be the problem if nothing works. Check the cord its self for and bad spots that may interrupt the power in.You say it does have a reset on it. Do you have or know any friend that may have a voltage meter? Are you able to make checks on this unit yourself? If I knew this, I could walk you through this. I will give you things to check and number one is the unit getting power through the on / off switch. With a meter, you could pull the switch out and leave it connected but check for voltage in and out by setting the meter to above 120 volts lets say 200 VAC.Touch one lead to one terminal that power from the cord comes into, and a metal ground with the other lead. Be Careful as I wouldn't want you to get shocked!!Do the same on the other side of switch to see if you have power coming out. If not, you have a faulty control switch. Check the reset the same way. You can by-pass it with a jumper wire one side to the other to see if it comes on. If it does, the reset is the fault. If not, Replace the unit.If indeed you do have power and you have ruled out all switches, the unit has quit. Please let me know what you find. Keep me posted, and i am confident you can make these checks.
Sincerely,
